Reading quran for the deceased

I want to know something… My husbands dad died a couple of months ago and now he reads the Quran for his dad he says that it will help his father.
My question is if that is true?
Can reading the Quran for ur loved one help them?
I follow Sunni Islam hanafi
I my husband is a Wahhabi

even if you think it wont help your FIL's soul, your husband will be rewarded for his deed. Let him recite. When we dont give a second thought to something wrong we are doing, why to think about 10 times for something thats a sawab!!

Maybe I wrote it wrong. I just want to know if it was true or not? not if he is doing something wrong or not.

well, as far as I have heard, people do it. I dont know how far is that true. I would definitely want to come back to this thread to see if someone has proved it with an authenticated Hadith (or surah).

Meanwhile, I will search about it too!!

If he's a Wahhabi then I'm truly surprised he is doing that for his deceased father. In short, only his prayers for his dad count from this point forward.

Dear thedoer, reading the quran is the only thing that can benefit mankind but it has to be for understanding it so that you could carry out its program in this world and get rewarded for in hereafter as well. Anyone who tells you reading the quran is wrong is out of his mind but so is the one who tells you to read the quran for the purpose other than the quran defines for itself.

Things done for wrong reasons and wrongly are useless even things done for right reasons wrongly are useless because they do not hit their set out target. To read the quran and benefit from it is what Allah wants us to do. So those who claim to be muslims should always read the quran to benefit from it. What is that benefit? To get to know the program of the quran, to get to know it as a constitution for the divine kingdom and to get to know it as a guideline for the formation of laws for the divine kingdom. These like are main reason for reading the quran.

Not only understanding the quran is important but also to know sunnah of the prophet and that means reading the hadith. Today we muslims are confused about each and everything about islam and that is because we have stopped reading the quran and hadith the way we were supposed to. The end results is we have become an utterly disgraced people, in troubles and problems. Having the quran as a book to guide us and being in trouble don't go together. It means we have left the quran and have gone after our own make beliefs. Paying lip service to deen and doing as we like.

So we need to make a come back and that means leaviong our self created nonsense and getting on with what we are supposed to do. If we do not do what we are told to do and do all else it serves no purpose whatsoever.

Moreover islam is all about brotherhood, why should anyone worry about only himself and his close relatives? This is wrong to begin with. We are children of same parents ultimately, belonging to human family. It is this family we all need to worry about. We need to do things that revive community spirit, individualism is anti humanity. The whole quran is based on the idea of brotherhood between mankind. This shows we are not thinking right because we are being selfish and narrow minded.

This is why we have so much going on within each and every family that is wrong and due to which families are breaking up. Leaving all this aside we are just worried whether doing this or that is ok or not. This is our baby mindedness so we need to grow up and think big. Once you bcome aware of overall picture then you are capable of seeing where anything fits within the bigger picture. This is why our drive should be towards becoming learned people by helping each other learn what is necessary for us to know to be able to live a successful life here to be successful in here after.

I'm away from notes so unable to provide reference right now. As per my lil knowledge, a deceased can be benifited from three ways:

1- Any thing which deceased given in charity and it beneficial for a human while using it by any means.
2- Share of (good) knowledge
3- Supplications (dua's) made by deceased child

So reading Qur'an by deceased son (your husband) and after that making dua for his forgivness or else, will help. Even only making dua on daily basis will also help.
