Do u get same reward for listening to,as for reading Quran?
As we read some Surah and blow on ourselves… Do we get same benefits and reward if we listen and blow…
Re: Reading/listening Quran.
Peace blossoming flower,
There is more reward in reading then listening to it as narrated in hadith 'the best among us is one who learn/read and teach Quran'. Reading some Chapters (Surahs) and then blowing on ourseleves is to protect ourselves from any misfortune and every Chapter (Surah) have its own benefit.
Re: Reading/listening Quran.
What about reading the translation, so I actually understand what I'm reading... Versus learning to read Arabic and reading the Quran word for word with out knowing what I'm reading?

One should make every effort to learn Arabic so he/she can understand Quran when reading or during Taraveeh. However if you don't understand Arabic and do recite Quran on a regular basis in Arabic and wants to know the meanings of it and listens to Translation or Tafseer for that purpose, Allah will reward you the benefits inshaAllah. However it should not be taken in lieu of reading scripture in Arabic, that should be done in any case.
Re: Reading/listening Quran.
For reading the quran in arabic if one learns reading arabic it is good but if one already knows how to read quran then the next step is to try and understand what one is reading and for that learning to read one’s own language is very important and then reading a number of translations that are from very different points of views so that one gets the ideas about various ways the words in arabic are taken. But ultimately it is better to learn arabic because without knowing the language of the quran one cannot benefit from the actual text of the quran because context of the quranic text otherwise cannot be known satisfactory due to problems with almost all available translations.

Re: Reading/listening Quran.
reading Qur'aan is an ibaadat and it can NOT replace listening...listening should be on the side...as far as reading Qur'aanic translation is concerned, it's highly recommended and one must strive to learn Qur'aan and understand it in order to practice our deen.
we have priorities in Islam. learning is incumbent upon all Muslims.

Peace MM,
Merely reading the translation doesn't mean that we are in actually reading Quran but it is very good for us if we read a verse with Urdu/English translation so that we understand each & every verse in better way. Usually it will take more time then only reading the Quran but as more as we read with translation for understanding purpose, we'll get more and more reward.
Further we learned something new, automatically our feeling will be like to telling our family, relatives, friends about it. So it's better and if possible then we should read it with translation & tafsir.
Re: Reading/listening Quran.
Hadith related to fadheelat of quran recitation cite huroof e muqateaat (meaning of which is not known). So even if some one recites without understandng quran he/she will get reward. But it is always better to learn arabic and then try to understand quran rather then reading some translation.
Listening also have benefits,
Ulema said here zikr means tilawat ul quran
The context of ayat related to jin kind of praises jins who respectfully listened and then accepted haq.
Re: Reading/listening Quran.
Narrated 'Abdullah (b. Mas'ud): 'Allah's Apostle said to me: "Recite (of the Qur'an) for me". I said: "Shall I recite it to you although it had been revealed to you?!" He said: "I like to hear (the Qur'an) from others". So I recited Surat-an-Nisa' till I reached: "How (will it be) then when We bring from each nation a witness and We bring you (O Muhammad) as a witness against these people?" ' (4: 41).
'Then he said: "Stop!" Behold, his eyes were shedding tears then.' [Bukhari, VI, No. 106.]
The hikmah here is that both the recitation and the listening are to serve different purposes ... To listen to the words brings reflection in to play as Sayyiduna RasoolAllah Muhammad (SAW) could hear (himself) being invoked by the Words of the All Mighty ... Otherwise, to recite will reinforce memorisation and brings other benefits ...
The reciting is active and the listening is passive - normally active forms are greater than passive forms ... however, there is evidence that there are some who recite without their hearts being affected ... and there are those who listen and their hearts melt ... in such cases how can it be thought that the recitation is greater than the listening?
To recite is greater if the heart is equally being moved, but obvious exceptions apply ... And Allah (SWT) Knows Best ...
