I have not read the fatwaa that bao posted, but according to Hanafi faith I think , reading anything while praying is Amal-e-Kaseera and Amal-e-Kaseera nullifies the salaat. So for instance if you are praying and there is a banner hanging in front of you and you start reading it, it will break your salat. Same is for reading Quran from writing.
JazakAllah brother TLK. I see the hikmah behind the ruling. That's also what I read from various sources online that because it involves extra movements (flipping pages, looking away, etc.) it disrupts the concentration, and thus effects the Salah in a negative manner.
I believe that Allah gives you ajar of reciting a surah in rakaat, independently of what you recited in last rakaat. So if you repeated that same surah cause that is the only surah you know, then you get the same ajar as if you recited a different surah.
now of course, you will get more reward if you have more quran memorized because of the effort you put in to memorize it.
I've seen so many people , men and women, reading from quran (with imam sb reciting the same) and I pads etc held in their hands during tarahweeh prayers in both Harmain Shareefain( Makkah , Madinah). Is it allowed during tarahweeh ? Personally, I felt close to what was being recited as instead of just listening I was reciting the same, too. In fact, I very much loved praying taraweeh while reading from quran. Allah u alam.
teggy, something I've found profoundly helpful in enhancing my memory when memorizing the surahs is reading the tafsir and translation alongside it. So you read the surah, the English translation and then (Ibn kathir's) detailed tafsir of the surah which explains the context and then it's much more meaningful and therefore easy to retain and recall.

Thanks Scherbatsky. That's what I'm doing at the moment, but really just reciting for the sake of fluency. InshaAllah on my second repeat, I will start to focus on memorization as well as reciting. Keep me in your duaa and prayers, inshaAllah.
