Is raw silk not practical?
I heard that you can’t just wash it? you gotta have dry cleanning done … i just want some wash and wear fabric for my dresses, which looks like silk texture without lots of added shine…
I don’t like Katan, its just not very flowyyyy ify ou know what i mean…
any ideas?
try grip silk i think that is the best materials on earth (to my opinion) i love that its really nice soft and has alot of flow just try that:D and with raw silk that makes u look fat and shalwar or trouser doesn't look good with that but there are different types of raw silk depends which one you are going for:)
it depends when and why do you want to wear it.
if its an formal outfit: SIlks are the best silk family contains ( Raw, crepe, charmeuse, chiffon, satin etc silk).
Raw silk is perfectly practical if you want to wear it on formal events and it has best fall when it comes to cuts specially in trouser, it is tough fabric also.
what many people dont know raw silk comes in different types starting from 60 grams upwards, as you go up it gets stiff, if you want softer but stronger fabric 60-75 grams should be alright.
we frequently use raw silk specially for formal wears and for trousers its our first choice.
the problem you had mentioned is with every varient in Pure Silk family not limited to raw silk , Katan is worst of all it leaves color when you even sweat.
Silks are not meant to be worn for every day use and you dont have to get them drycleaned after single wear unless its required.
if you want a washnwear type fabric for daily use then i would suggest you wash n wear high grade cotton, ka***** (if you like rough feel) , and best of all is good quality georgette or any other from synthetic ployester family it not only has soft textures & has smooth feel as well.

there are so many kinds of ka+r+a+n+d+i and some are textured and slightly stiff and some are textured and smooth.
normally used are kind of chinese ka+r+a+n+d+i which is good fabric and ideal for causal and semi party wears.
fortunately we had one dress being made in ka+r+a+n+d+i attaching photos of it. http://indusmart.com/P1010023.jpg
below one taken using Macros and textures can be seen, see both images at full length in your browser. http://indusmart.com/P1010026.jpg
unfortunately in real you get around 70-75 gram for what shopvendor/supplier tells you is 80+ gram and less than 50-55 gms for what they tell you is 60.
so we have graded it as 55 grams, 75 grams and 80+grams.
you cannot get actual 80+ grams fabric everywhere.
if you can have any a year old undyed chiffon fabric just compare it with currently available you would see big difference.
