Raw Silk...

Is raw silk not practical?
I heard that you can’t just wash it? you gotta have dry cleanning done … i just want some wash and wear fabric for my dresses, which looks like silk texture without lots of added shine…
I don’t like Katan, its just not very flowyyyy ify ou know what i mean…
any ideas?

Thanks!

Re: Raw Silk...

raw silk is not flowy either

Re: Raw Silk...

i really dont know what happened there but i posted a reply to this thread any ways i suggested to try Grip Silk which is a really nice, soft and flowy material and alot better than raw silk coz raw silk makes u look fat well this is my observation:D

Re: Raw Silk...

Is grip washable? and does it maintain its look after washing or do you have to get it dry cleaned?
Sorry for the ignorance but I really don't know the fabrics by names....
I might have thinking of raw silk something else.... but even in teh online website most dresses are made of either georgette or raw silk... so wasnt sure what fabric is easy to take care of with a silk look and feeling....

Thanks :)

Re: Raw Silk...

yeh it is easy to wash you can handwash it only though, dont put it in the washing machine coz that can ruin any good fabric always hadnwash delicate stuff and even u can handwash the raw silk and it wont go bad, yeh you are right that most of the clothes are made of either raw silk or georgette btw georgette is really good aswel but again you will have to handwash it:D

Re: Raw Silk...

I always throw my georgettes in the washing machine. they always turn out ok. I guess it depends on how fine the cloth is.

As for raw silk...or any silk for that matter, it is a cloth that has to be treated properly. It isn't like cotton. There are different kinds of silks with different kinds of flow. Raw silk is a bit khari khari. Great for kameezain. And raw silk has a distinctive quality to it. But if you want flow, go for American Silk. It flows really nicely and is really smooth.

Katan is different. Since it's got a pattern to it, obviously it isn't going to be flowy. I see it as being in between raw silk and american silk .

Re: Raw Silk...

what is american silk? Is it easily available in pakistan? Whats is it called there?
And does it have a shine in it? or no?

Thanks for your help everybody!!! :)

Re: Raw Silk...

oh yea american silk is readily available in pakistan. and it's called american silk :D and it does have a shine to it. its different from raw silk's ofcourse. but it's not like chamak chamak. it's like dullish
