Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
^ isnt it Allah’s distribution that you (not specifically KKF or Umar but anyone who thinks they are superior if they are ‘baahir waalay’) are in a place where you are right now and those kids in slums were born to poor/‘under walay’ parents ? why make fun and look down upon them ? It’s sad and I am sure we’d be dancing around ‘goray’ if we were born in their places like ‘goray’ would dance around aliens if they come across one !
Re: Rats kill newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
I remember a news paper story where dogs dragged and ate a patient…
Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
this is really sad ! But what I fail to understand is, arent nurseries supposed to be absolutely disinfected and have at least some degrees of sterility ? ![]()
From experience, in my hospital in Lahore, there was a separate post delivery room for the baby where the baby was washed and clothed and nurersy was altogether in another area. And at least the nursery was much cleaner and in a better condition. Maybe by nursery they do mean the post delivery room?
Either way this is SO disturbing ![]()
Thinking of people who are destined to be treated at such places and have no incomes to afford private or better healthcare wrenches my heart.
And at the end of it all, it’s just ALL down to corruption starting right from level of Zardari till the level of the hospital admin. Using only 40% of the funds (which already are comparable to peanuts) and gulping down all the rest. Allah hdayat de bus ![]()
Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
i don’t think that it was my intention or Umer’s intention to ridicule them…we just pointed out the fact that it does happen…i’ve seen it, experienced it and i wonder why they do it…it’s NOT that the poor people do it…well off people do that as well and it’s sad and beyond me…

Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
proto you took this the wrong way. I find it deeply disturbing that hospital staff (or any other staff for that matter) change their behaviour just because someone is from abroad. They should be friendly and supportive towards all their patients, regardless of whether they are “baahir waaley”. That’s what I was trying to point out and that’s why I put the
smiley at the end of my statement. I would never consider myself to be superior just because I happen to be based outside Pakistan.
Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
Not directly at you Umer, but maybe we should change our own attitude, all of us, why do we have to tell them we are baahir waaley ? When I am asked in Pakistan where I am from, I say Islamabad, where I stay not AT, we never tell people where we come from unless really necessary or they guess from my accent.
I have seen in my own family, hum to UK/Japan waaley hai hum tu yahan waaley hai … they rub it in our noses, they throw with their money, of course the people will dance around you, as they know u are a paying party, here they will get more than with their normal patients. Maybe its time to look into our own attitude, before we make the staff look like its all their doing.
again not against u, just a general observation.
Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
when I am in Pakistan my every effort, from speaking to dressing, is to ensure that nobody figures out that I’m from “bahir”…mainly because I don’t want to get mugged or my house to be robbed.
so for me there was no question that I was behaving like a local…and that might be why they treated me the way they did…and that was why I raised all the fuss.
I spoke to them in Urdu and stayed in the general ward rather than the “super-VIP” private room that we could easily have booked. Unfortunately they took complete advantage of us. (The nurse actually had the nerve to yell at me when the IV they had incorrectly placed in my child’s arm and failed to secure with a board, came out and blood drenched the bed and my clothing. She was angry, “Aap ko pehlay pata nahin chala?! Ab bata raheen hain mujhey!!!?”)
On the day that I finally spoke to the doctor on rounds I spoke in unaccented, Canadian English. Again…the look on the face of the male nurse was priceless!
Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
ad when i am in India, i always dress in shalwar qameez and speak my own local language [NOT even Urdu]…people coming from Bombay look and behave more “Baahar waale” than i do.
i tell you one funny story.
i buy INDRAIL Pass [sold only to foreigners/expats against payment in a foreign currency] which allows me to travel anywhere to anywhere in First AC class by which ever train i choose. this time i was returning to my hometown after attending a funeral and my clothes [white Lakhnauwii kurta and AligaRhii paijama] were dirty. when i tried to board the First AC Coach of a Rajdhani Express train [India’s one of the most prestigious and expensive train], i was stopped by the Train Conductor who, in a very rude way, said , “are kahaN ghuse aa rahe ho? yeh bahot mahngaa Dibba aur gaaRii hai…dusrii train se jaao”…i smiled and produced my Indrail Pass and then you must have seen in the attitude of that Train Conductor…he was a completely a changed person…he said, “aaiye aaiye saab, Ghalatii ho gaii…maiN samjhaa aise hii koii hogaa…log chale aate haiN sar uThaaye huye na…sorry sir…i am sorry, sir!”…maiN ne kahaa, “bhai, koii baat nahiiN…aisaa muGhaalta ho jaataa hai…mujhe bhii pant suit pahen kar aur tie lagaa kar aanaa chaahiye thaa”…us par vo bhii haNs paRaa…we had a good chat afterwards!
Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
well last time i was in india, a fat aunty told me to drive her to some address. that is what you get for standing too close to an autorickshaw wearing an olive shirt.
Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
![]()
you sure it’s only the olive shirt and proximity to the rickshaw?
Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
that was a bad day. day starts with my dad asked me why i was wearing a blouse. i got mistaken for a waiter at the restaurant i was waiting for a bench (not even a table) at. anyway.. no rat bit me, so off topic.
Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
Well said.
Also, to blame the little guy on the frontlines without assigning blame where it also belongs all the way up the chain is not right. Hope the baby recovers soon.
Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
Rai, rai poova poova!
Re: Rats attack newborn in a hospital in Rawalpindi ![]()
You are absolutely right. And like Muzna said I also avoid standing out as “baahir waala” as much as I can when I am in Pakistan. But my kids don’t.
A lot of times conversations go like this: “Aap kaha ke hain?”, I go “Lahore”, one of my kids then says “Papa, lekin hum to Vienna main rehte hain.” ![]()
People can usually not tell from my accent either, but from that of my kids.
