The famous proverb comes to mind as I read this story about Hamas’s attack that killed 4 Israeli soldiers. The proverb goes like this:
“Khoda Pahar or nikla chooha” (You dig out the whole mountain and the only thing you discover is a little rat-hole).
Well these Hammas militants dig a half mile tunnel for 4 months only to damage an outpost of Israeli army. The emphasis is on “outpost”. OK the net loss for Israel is 4 of its Bedouin Arab soldiers. What is the gain for Palestinians?
Nothing!
Hammas kills 4 ** Bedouin Arab soldiers ** that will bring more death and destruction at the hand of Israeli soldiers. In addition to future Palestinian loss of life, the very credibility of Abu Mazan was blown up with that outpost. More Palestinians will lose jobs or have difficulty getting to jobs in Israel. Since the tunnel was half mile long, there must have been a Palestinian house used to hide the digging process. That house and every other house in the 1-mile radius will now be leveled, resulting in further shortage of Palestinian houses.
To gain such a small return with so much loss and suffering is what I meant by using the proverb.
