rationality

is rationality merely a matter of perception or is there a universal correct rationale that should govern human behavior in all matters…? after all, even religious scripture is open to human interpretation

extremists like hitler, suicide bombers, majnu…were they crazy or just differrent? do we have the right to say they were wrong?

do we have the right to say they were wrong?

No, you don't. Rest of us do.

^:rotfl:

Would you call a murder different or a criminal? Is killing someone different or a crime? ... there is a thing called common sense that ashraf-ul-makhlukaat are supposed to have...

ChaChoo bhai common sense is an illusion. the same murderer to some could be a hero and to some a villain.

Roman - hasi nai aai :hoonh:

RP - hansti hi raho gi ya kuch bolo gee bhee kaki

rationality in my opinion can be sheer madness in yours. Yes, there exists a common thread of universal rationale amongst humans but i think thats due to globalization of the concept of human rights as well as awareness of the common law, based on religion or whatever it is that holds the foundation for some kind of moral and ethical guideline for preservation of self as a community. Sorry if this doesnt make sense, i cant seem to find words to get my point across

Devil hmm dat makes sense yaar :k:

for someone who does not have common sense it sure is an illusion ...

forget about religion and social morals for a minutes, lets say someone murders someone during a robbery, plain robbery no Robin Hood crap... whose hero is the murder? His wife and kids who he is feeding with that blood money? You don't need no religion or social morals to pass him off as a cold blooded murder....

God gave humans the ability to think and use their brains that is what sets us apart from animals. How about the genocide in Bosnia? Or Baking of Jews? Or Darfur or Rawanda… you really think that we have no right to judge the aggressors as murders and criminals or crazy despite the fact these aggressors were considered heroes by some lunatics? Don’t we have the right calling these criminals “wrong” and not just “different”?

Rationality is definately a matter of perception.

Adolf Hitler, for instance, adhered very closely to a particular rationale that he persuade many Germans to adhere to as well : the rationale that Aryans were the superior ethnic group in the world and that Jews were subhuman.

To the perception of most other people, that was sick and twisted. To Nazis, it was perfectly rational.

Re: rationality

wat has this to with H&R? Mods?? :hoonh:

anyway, i don’t think there is a universal correct rationale. Every one/group has hiw own set of beliefs and judgment and based on that they are right and the other wrong. However, equally well the other has his own set of beliefs, and within that framework he is right.
All in all, I don’t think there is one particular set that is universal..there are more than one valid sets each with its own specific rationale

and ^^ are so forbiddenly specific?

^^come again?:-s

and that means what??
waisay u are just rewording the whole "its all relative, nothing's absolute" wala argument. not particularly original i am afraid, i have a feeling u r dying to move this to philo. :)

i don't see why as an answer to irem's inquiry one needs to be original. By rewording what others have said (some of them in this thread like MS) I'm giving her my opinion about it.

As for the last part: :D

ChaChoo bhai only after Islam taught us that ALL human beings were equal did we develop such thought, otherwise many people believed that certain human beings were superior, and even the good men among society believed that. plus, look at what was prevalent in pre-Islamic arabic, female infanticide, polygamy to the extreme and so on. those ppl did have a system of society which they believed to be right even though now we think its barbaric. so e do need some guidance to tell us whats right and whats wrong. just being ashraffulmakhlooqaat n having common sense doesnt tell us whats just and whats not imho. what do you think?

ms, nes i agree

nes, i dono, i thought it was relevant to health and relationships, maybe coz the issue at the back of my mind when i posted this thread was a h&r issue :D khayr, if u guyz [modz] wana move it plz go ahead :)

I d love to reply, but my head phones are too loud, so cant think to deep :bummer:
I ll reply later on
