for portable power source i am thinking of using old laptop battery and independent power source for touch screen.

DMD I know people use a lot of 5 volt rechargeable batteries.
I had planned to put that with small solar cell sheet to make it charge it self.
for little circuitry there are open source tools. Very nice ones.
I so want some one from GS to make the boat or time lapse camera and post pictures here.

I installed NodeJS on it and programmed it using JavaScript :-) Plus its more higher level language with all kind of libraries available.

I will be working on a project where camera takes time-lapse pictures and upload it to cloud. I've been trying to find some time to work on it but I've been too busy. I might have to wait til this summer.

DMD I did some work.
1-for base of the boat I want to 2 empty water bottles.
2- I have to measure resistance of those bottles + some weight( pi +camera + batter etc)
That should be easy enough with a little spring scale.
3-find either fan propeller of water one. I want to use fan one(in the air) we need measure its force.
I would need something to measure wind speed(need to find fan thrust), That looks easy , you can make speed meter with computer fan and multimeter.
4-difficult part is for now for me, to move propeller with servo motor. I have to find or think a way to mount it on the boat.
5-usb camera would go in test-tube with non conductive oil, that I can lower in water to take picture of fish

So Monk, how far did you get. I got mine to get setup as a media center but didn't go much further. So many cool things to do, so little time.

with battery or say usb/laptop power, does wirless works ?
I have beaglebone board, that one has issues, wireless only works when board is attached to ac power supply.
