Rashid Latif in deep water - faces disciplinary action

** Pakistan’s internal unease continues **

Latif rages against the system

Hardly a day goes by without self-inflicted unrest rocking the Pakistan camp, and this time it is former captain Rashid Latif who has put his stick into the hornets’ nest and given it a good stir.

Appearing on television to discuss the squad selection for the one-day series against New Zealand, Rashid leveled all sorts of accusations against the Pakistan authorities. Among other remarks, Latif slammed the cricketing structure within the country, claimed that the relationship between journalists and selectors was too cozy, that selections were not always based on merit, and that various administrators did not always act in the best interests of the game. Latif concluded by saying that he was collecting evidence and would present his findings soon.

Rashid was more conciliatory on the subject of players’ pay, admitting that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had looked after their welfare and gone a long way to improving their pay and conditions. But the concession was tempered with a call for an even greater share of sponsorship and television rights to be passed on to the squad.

A source close to the PCB dismissed Latif’s attack, saying that his views on cricket were blinkered. “In Rashid’s book,” he commented, “there probably is only the word ‘take’ while the word ‘give’ is missing”.

He went on to condemn Latif for adding to an already uneasy situation and for giving more ammunition to those willing to snipe at the authorities. “With his reckless and even irresponsible statements continues to provide these elements with nourishment,” he said. “He can contribute far more through his cricketing skills.” *

i saw these interviews, on Wednesday night RL was with Indus Sports presenter Mirza Iqbal Baig, and he “revealed” that PCB used him like a pawn, when after the lost in WC 03 Pak cricket was down and out, and no one has willing to take up the captaincy, he came in, and when now the team is up on its feet and running, they tossed him out.
He claimed that Aamir is also being used like pawn, he will also get the boot when PCB is done with him, and has talked to him about this.

so the General has now used Aamir for his sons selection…

RL promised to come on the show after 2/3 weeks to “reveal” more secrets of Pak cricket…

Indus News just reported now that the PCB has given RL show-cause notice for his above statements…

I watched that programe too! I just got the feeling that Rashid Latif wasn't quite thinking before speaking. First he complains of the fact that he wasn't selected among the 22 probables, and then he goes on to say that he will not play agaiin under this set up. If the later is his principled stand, then why is he complaining on not being selected? His allegations are more out of revenge than for the betterment of Pakistan's cricket. Thats my opinion.

Rashid Latif in deep water - faces disciplinary action

Latif in deep water

**Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif faces disciplinary action for criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a television interview.

Latif is aware he has breached the players’ code of conduct after criticising team selection.

“I fail to understand on what grounds the selectors have dropped me from the national team,” Latif said in a television interview. **

He was not included in a squad for the home series against New Zealand.

**Latif, persuaded out of retirement to captain the team after the World Cup, now wishes he had never bothered.

He said: “I was used as a pawn and I regret my decision to accept the captaincy.” **

Under the PCB rules, players are bound by contract not to make such public statements.

**“I accept that I violated the PCB’s contract, but I wanted to give a true picture of Pakistani cricket to all the Pakistani public,” Latif explained.

Latif also criticised the PCB’s chief selector Aamir Sohail in print.

A PCB spokesman said: "Latif has been served a show cause notice for a television interview.

“The PCB disciplinary committee headed by Justice (retired) Amir Alam will hear the case on a date to be announced later.” **

Latif, who has played 166 one-dayers and 37 Tests for Pakistan, pulled out of the two-match Test series against South Africa last month.

In his first series in charge after the World Cup, he led Pakistan in the quadrangular tournament win in Sharjah

A runners-up spot in a tri-series in Sri Lanka in May followed and then a 2-1 loss in the one-day series in England in June.

After being banned for five one-day matches on claiming an unfair catch in the Multan Test against Bangladesh he resigned as captain.

==============================

as much as I love the days of Rashid Latif behind stumps - taking catches off Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis bowling - i think it’s time he should stop talking - it’s hurtful to see how experienced players get the treatment at the hands of some punkass - PCB authority aren’t going to listen to Latif - they still back Aamir Sohail no matter how wrong he is and will be - it’s a sad state of affairs really.

I am not shocked. Whenever he’s dropped fron the team he starts criticising PCB and other players, or goes out to write article. what’s wrong with him?

He hasnt criticized anyone before aprt from Aamir Sohail. And i agree that him criticizing right now only will harm his image and will make his staunch supporter Ramiz Raja angry too and that will minimize his chances for a come back. Which already is impossible in my opinion.

i have stood by rashid latif and all his accusations which i believe are for the most part true knowing PCB and all..but this guy takes it a bit too far..why cant he wait till his playing days are over and then freakin write a damn book critisizing the structure and what not...he doesnt wanna solve anything..just wants to critisize and be on the front page of papers..i m losing respect for this guy now..

Rashid Latif really needs to sort himself out and either declare that he has retired and then say what ever he likes or keep his mouth shut. At the moment he is not doing himself or his career any good by making such statments every day. He and his statements are becoming a bit of a

Moin is much better:k:

Look who's talking....

thats just how he has been - honest n uprite. . yes he keeps bringing up these things, but he says and acts from the heart - out of love of pakistan cricket. only thing i disagree is the way he goes abt doing it, its really unprofessional...

he has never really put his career before pakistan cricket. there isnt any sorting out he needs for himself, its the pcb that needs some sorting out… he’s just bringing their problems to the fore…

It is surprising how these problems come to the fore when he is out of the team.

ehsan, when he is "in the team" he has to abide by other contracts regarding bringing issues to the public, now that he is not in the team he is not under contrat. remember in his one of "Urdu" articles he mentioned that players are bound by 3 months of contract for not speaking out and as per that article that contract expired in Sept/Oct. time.

Just to correct you here, he left the team more than once (or forced to leave the team) when he talked about all this stuff internally. Most recently he talked with Tauqeer Zia / Amir Sohail and paid the price. He cant give public statements when he is in the team because he has to abide by the contract rules.

If he say all this jub wo captain tha then you ppl say "captain ho ker Rashid ko aisee baat nahi kerne chehyee" and now you are saying "It is surprising how these problems come to the fore when he is out of the team."

koi haal nahi, kisi haal main khush nahi :)

really guys... hes stating such things which is forcing us to loose respect for him.

I think that applies to Rashid quite well. Read what I had said earlier, he should make up his mind what he wants to do. He retires and comes back on virtually daily basis. He mostly whinges when he is out of the team. I have a lot of regard for his wicketkeeping abilities, but no time for his tantrums.

PCB disciplinary committee to discuss Rashid’s case

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to have a session of its disciplinary committee to hear out the code of conduct violation charges against former captain Rashid Latif.

‘The News’ has learnt that the disciplinary committee might meet as early as Monday to hold a preliminary hearing on the charges against Latif before issuing him notice to appear in person before the committee and give his point of view.

But the preliminary meeting of the committee which is headed by Justice (retd) Ameer Alam could be delayed due to the Eid Holidays.

Rashid has been charged by the board with violating the players code of conduct as he is under contractual obligations until December 24 this year.

During the contractual period a player including the captain cannot criticize board policies or other players or make any controversial remarks to the press.

Rashid appearing on a private television channel left everyone stunned with some scathing comments on the Board and its policies.

Sources said that if the disciplinary committee upheld the charges against Latif he could be fined heavily or even face a long ban from the game at every level. Ironically, a day before Rashid gave the interview senior board officials had taken a policy decision that the former captain would be the wicketkeeper for Pakistan’s Tests in New Zealand and India.

More importantly, it was also decided in principle that after the India series when he retired he would be offered a senior coaching position at the national cricket academy in Lahore and with junior teams. This is not the first time that Rashid has run into problems with the establishment.

Zara sabr ker leta tu Rashid ka kya jana thaa, :hoonh: he might be banned, thus wont be considered for selections.

Agreed he's emotional, and speaks from hi heart. but DC is spot on abt why he doesnt say it things when he's in the team. U would be the first one whining that he's not being a gd captain criticizing his players or the board. Don expect him to shut up n say nothing abt the problems in our cricket.

Its funny that in our forums we agree with most of the stuff he said, but when he actually says it we contradict ourselves and disagree with it!
