Rare fatal disease takes three more lives in Karachi

KARACHI - The little known fatal disease Naegleria Fowleri or Brain-eating amoeba is taking roots in Pakistan as three more persons affected with this decease have expired last week, raising the death toll of victims to 10. Accorging to Dengue Surveillance Cell, the three victims belonged to Federal B area. A senior physician dealing with the patients in hospital said that a 4-year-old Naegleria patient from Gulberg was admitted in Habib Medical Hospital on Sept 27 and died on Sep 30, despite receiving proper medical treatment. Saad, 24 and Zain, 22 could also not survive.

It’s due to warm freshwater genus called Naegleria.
