Rapes by American army in Iraq?

Few friends have mentioned it to me that there was news about it how American armymen are raping Iraqi women. I have not come accross any news like that although I am not reading much anyway. I am sure some of you who are on top of things might have seen such news items.
Please provide me all news links from any web site that mentioned any numbers or specific incidents. I appreciate it. thanks.

According to the daily As-Saah, the girls, aged 14 and 15, were talking to American soldiers in Suwaira, 180km south of Baghdad, on Friday when the soldiers suggested they accompany them to their camp to take pictures but then collectively raped the pair.

This allegation is “absolutely false”, the US Central Command said in a statement.

“We take any claim of this nature extremely seriously, have looked into the allegations and found nothing whatsoever to substantiate the accusations - including checking local hospital records,” it said.

As-Saah said one of the girls died after she was raped by 18 soldiers while the other was killed by her family. Editor Naama Abderrazzak said two of the daily’s reporters had talked to residents of the area and seen the bodies of the two girls.

“After conducting a thorough investigation into this supposed account, we know this report is inaccurate, irresponsible, and purposefully attempts to damage the credibility of our forces and our efforts to create a secure and stable environment for the people of Iraq,” Centcom said.

But Abderrazzak insisted he had asked his staff to thoroughly check the story and it was definitely true.

“Let the coalition prove that our report is false and I will fire the two journalists (who wrote it). So far, they haven’t,” he said.

US soldiers accused of raping teenage girls

enough said it no secret these GI Joes do the same to children in japan and other places where some have been caught red handed, one can only imagine the ones they got away with and the ones not reported out of shame by the victims! must make americans proud to be associated with these so called hero marines :disgust:

"Let the coalition prove that our report is false and I will fire the two journalists (who wrote it). So far, they haven't," he said.

That's the most ridiculous statement I've ever read. The burden of proof is on the accusers, not the accused.

I say that you (AK47) are a murderer. You say that you are not? Prove it.

To the contrary, Iraq assumed the affirmative obligation of destroying their WMD and all their WMD programs. The starting point was the known existence of both weapons and weapons programs. The fact Iraq was required to prove were the acts constituting the destruction. While the Iraqi regime kept excrutiatingly detailed documentation regarding lots of things like the torture and murder of its citizens, it could provide no documentary evidence of taking affirmative steps to destroy known weapons stockpiles.

Of course, these distinctions constitute mere nuances easy to ignore.

The editor of this newspaper, Naama Abderrazzak, should visit the families of these two girls with an official from Amnesty, Red Crescent or HRW; he has got to realize his words alone will carry very little credibility (not trying to be rude here, but it's a fact - he can be perceived of as being biased). If what his newspaper claims is true, then he should have no hesitations in inviting a relatively independent official to investigate this matter further. Since one of the raped girls was later herself killed by her own family, though, i am not certain how welcoming that particular family would be towards a full and open investigation.

IF true, it's inexpressibly sad and barbaric. So much for liberation.

The Story is garbage, how about editing the thread name.
…And the two reporters have been fired.

Iraq daily retracts gang-rape allegation
A Baghdad newspaper has retracted claims US troops in Iraq had gang-raped two teenage girls, saying it had fired the two journalists who penned the report, which sparked a furious reaction from the US military.

“On Saturday we published a report by two of our correspondents Ahmad Abdel Karim and Mohammad Fadel, saying that US soldiers had raped two young girls,” As-Saah wrote.

“Considering the sensitive nature of this affair, we sent out chief editor and two other reporters to Suwairra and they found the article was based on local hearsay.”

US Central Command said a “thorough investigation” had shown the report to be “absolutely false” and charged that the paper was “purposefully” seeking to “damage the credibility of our forces”.

It accused the paper, whose managing editor Adeeb Shaaban was an aide of Saddam Hussein’s elder son Uday and has been in US custody for nearly a fortnight, of supporting the ousted strongman.

"IF true, it's inexpressibly sad and barbaric. So much for liberation."

the irony here is that this is exactly the type of crime committed regularly by the former Iraqi leadership. How much attention did that get in the Arab or Muslim world? ZERO

So much for sympathy. American antipathy is the (true) cause of the sensationalism surrounding these stories.

oh please are you desperate or what

Stu you have’nt got a leg to stand on your US marines are found guilty of rape every other day Another US marine caught Raping civillian!

Weapons off mass Delusion ring any bells :rotfl: or how about the made for TV fake Private lynch rescue who apparantely had every stab wound and gunshot wound possible but on inspection did’nt even have scratch except a sudden bout of amnesia :hoonh:

the western media has little if any credibility left after the farce coverage of Gulf Masscre II. Now the whole world is laughing at the joke news coming from western media whose credibilty has been shot to pieces!

With all due respect that's becoming a redundant refrain now. These types of crimes were also committed under the same Iraqi leader at whose palace Rumsfeld went to be welcomed at; he could barely contain his excitement back then at shaking the hands of one of the world's most brutal dictators.

Good comeback Malik !

Well if US military came to my house and I was the editor-in-cheif of that paper…and said
Option one…retract the story and fire the two reporters and we will give you a million dollars.
Option 2 : I will have you and your family killed..I would take option 1 !..wouldn’t you ?

"These types of crimes were also committed under the same Iraqi leader at whose palace Rumsfeld went to be welcomed at; he could barely contain his excitement back then at shaking the hands of one of the world's most brutal dictators."

Whereas THAT is NOT a "redundant refrain"? Give me a break.

Exactly. In fact the United States government spent a decade cosying upto and even downplaying Saddam’s crimes, even as he got progressively more murderous. The 1988 Halabja gassing of Kurds being a case in point, something I posted in an earlier thread:-

When the US government “covered up” Saddam’s gassing of the Kurds](http://www.gupistan.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74175&highlight=halabja)

As for the accusations of rape by the American army in Iraq. I heard that the Occupier-in-Chief of Iraq, Paul Bremner has passed a new censoring law against the Iraqi press which forbids them to report such stories i.e. the rapes, and criticism of the US occupation?

**

In the “democratic” Iraq that today places restrictions upon the press, it becomes even harder to ascertain what’s really going on in this country. Interesting quote from this Boston Globe article:

US restrictions on Iraqi media spark criticism, Ellen Barry, Boston Globe, 20 June 2003
