I think death penality may result in Rapists killing the women after henious act. Strict legislation is required only after that court can give proper decision on such case.

I hear from a source in India than some people are blaming the girl for the rape and saying what was she doing out late at night watching a movie with a male friend. That the rape was a punishment for the girl.

I thought that India was more progressive than Pakistan but it seems that India is more backward than Pakistan. The reality in India is much different from the India that is portrayed in Bollywood.

well north india is pretty much same as pakistan as far as morality goes. delhi is between punjab and UP. this is the land where blaming women for everything and anything is the culture and norm among the uneducated.

I know there are some pervs in Pakistan, but I dont know if "Eve teasing" is such a huge issue, unless its covered up, which isnt unheard off. Would like some insight on this from the ladies on that. Cultural differences prevalent in Pakistan that govern interactions among men and women make comparisons between North India and Pakistan difficult.

South Indians seem like nice enough people, but the men dont seem to be any less horny then their Northern cousins. And education doesnt seem to be an issue. Japan for example has high literacy but you still hear of women being groped on their infamous trains.

Yes as my impression of India was different, and all the Indians that I met abroad seemed to be more progressive and confident than the Pakistanis, particularly the hindu females that I met back in the days.

This without a doubt is a terribly sad situation but we do none the less need to reman rational about the topic, there are indeed plenty of people be they politicians or parts of the media maybe who will exploit this situation for their own end. Rape, murder etc is nothing new so why is it now some are demanding the death penatly? Is it because they have taken into consideration rational discussion and debate or are they simply jumping on the bandwagon without thinking things through.....

....The latter can be extremely dangerous.

Yes their are similar stories from Pakistan too,I thnk our Govt should gv punishment according to shariah so no one can even think of doing such acts..So many cases of Rape, fornication and molestation throughout the world,BUT Throughout the Islamic world wherever Sharia law is upheld harsh punishments are introduced to fornicators(Zinna a karne wala/Rapist)

During the time of the Prophet (saw) punishment was inflicted on the rapist on the solitary evidence of the woman who was raped by him. Wa’il ibn Hujr reports of an incident when a woman was raped. Later, when some people came by, she identified and accused the man of raping her. They seized him and brought him to Allah’s messenger, who said to the woman, “Go away, for Allâh has forgiven you,” but of the man who had raped her, he said, “Stone him to death.” (Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud)

This is the punishment for a Zina in an Islamic Governing Country
… because Allah the almighty says in the Holy Quran:
“(as for) the fornication and the fornicator, flog each of them, (giving) a hundred stripes, and let not pity for them detain you in the matter of obedience to Allah,if you believe in Allah and the last day, and let a party of believers witness their chastisement.”

If you don’t want to start a debate, it is simple. **Don’t make outrageous statements **and expect them to go unchallenged. As for staying to the topic, unless this was a theological discussion, I believe it was you who veered off course. I also noticed that after admonishing me to stay on topic, you made two additional posts on prescribed punishment per scripture.

The attempt to classify rape and fornication in the same sin category is, to put it mildly, insane. Anyway, I am out of this discussion, which somehow turned theological.

Television news channels quoted police sources saying the perpetrators had abused the woman for being out at night with a man and said they would "teach her a lesson."

whoa! It is the same logic I have seen our people using to abuse women. There are people who mistreat women on streets of Pakistan because they think they didn't dress properly.
I even saw a Saudi video where some boys were "playing" with some full-burqa clad girls who had ventured out without a male relative.
