I have to take some exception with the thesis, maybe the title, of this thread. New Delhi being the “Rape Capital of India”. I submit, rape is as prevalent, if not more so, in other parts of India as it is in New Delhi. I would even state, that rape is less common in New Delhi than it is in other parts. People simply hear about it because women in New Delhi report it.
Instead of simply looking at legislation, Indians should do some soul searching and look at our culture, religion, attitudes towards women, and education. There is no silver bullet. What happened to this girl is horrible, but it’s no more or less horrible to what happens to women daily in India.
