Ranieri favourite for Roma post

**Former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri is favourite to be Roma’s next coach after Luciano Spalletti resigned.**Spalletti took charge of Roma in 2005, winning the Italian Cup and coming second in the League in 2007 and 2008.

But last season they came only sixth and a lack of big signings and a poor start to the season cost him his job.

Ranieri’s most recent club was Juventus whom he took to third in the table in 2008 on their return to Serie A after demotion for match-fixing.

The 57-year-old was sacked in May after a run of seven matches without a win.

Roma, who are in Fulham’s Europa League group, lost their opening game of the season 3-2 at Genoa, followed by a 3-1 home defeat by Juventus on Sunday, leaving them bottom of the table.

“I submitted my resignation and the club accepted it,” said Spalletti, 50, after a 30-minute meeting with club president Rosella Sensi.
