Rangers operation in Karachi

During the past few months, after the launch of this operation the law and order situation of Karachi has improved. The people of the city would be the best judge. This has created a constituency for Pmln in the city, especially amongst the trading community as they were the biggest victim of bad law and order situation in the city. Pmln has won more than 10 seats in the recently conducted local government polls in the metropolis. I have not seen the program of Wajahat khan yet, which he filmed in Lyari and was aired today on dunya news. It seems as if the good will for Nawaz sharif and the army chief is increasing in lyari as well.

Pmln played a masterstroke by targeting dr Asim Hussain and the reaction that PPP has showed as a result is portraying PPP as the biggest hurdle in bringing peace to the city. Win win situation for Pmln, and even the residents to some extent. The operation has not had that much impact on MQM as Karachi is their base and they don’t have much presence outside urban Sindh. PPP is the biggest loser in this war of perceptions, what do you guys think?

Re: Rangers operation in Karachi

Pakistan Peoples' Party has been a loser everywhere, period. If its' loss in the last elections wasn't an indication enough, the inept and incompetence of its' current pool of numb-minded office bearers and their mindless drones is putting the last nail in the coffin. However, the rumor is that the party has found Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in the form of Bilawal Zardari; ready to lead the party and nation in another decade or so. Or so we hope.

Any effort that brings about Peace, and brings the interests of the people to the forefront is a good effort that the nation should support regardless of affiliations or who ends up on the receiving end of the hammer.

Re: Rangers operation in Karachi

Doesn't this mean bad news for PTI? Heck, noon made Sindhi alliance might give a hard time to PPP in interior sindh.

I guess that's why PTI has given up elsewhere other than Punjab. Now, I don't know if things are so bad that Punjab would throw out PML. It pretty much means PTI might govern again in KP and if the good news is true, then they pretty much wipe out diesel which is good news for me. Baluchistan usually votes for a blend of nationalists and then federal parties. PTI might pick some seats in Baluchistan, but not enough to form provincial or federal govt.

Re: Rangers operation in Karachi

^ this means bad news for Pti too. They were eyeing MQM vote bank in Karachi which is again rallying behind the party on the notion of being victimised. Pmln has also made inroads courtesy the operation in the city. No opening for Pti at the moment in Sindh. I think PPP's image is further getting a dent nationwide on the way they are handling Karachi operation and the image is going out that they are trying to protect the corrupt.

Re: Rangers operation in Karachi

Noon can get away with making alliance with prominent Sindhi waderas to counter PPP, but if PTI does the same, they will be cursed and stoned to death. Heck, how easy it would be for PTI to get seemingly willing Zulfiqar Mirza on board and at least secure Badin, but they can't do this. PTI is judged according to totally different set of standards.

But PTI is developing some serious vote bank in South Punjab. They can also penetrate into Pashtun belt of Balochisan naturally from KPK, and if the decision of FATA's merger with KPK is made before the next elections, and then PTI will also naturally branch out there. So all in all, on paper PTI is quite set to be the only mainstream party of Pashtun belt stretching from FATA to parts of Balochistan. Now it all depends how they play their cards.

But one thing is crystal clear - they have absolutely no real chance neither in Karachi nor in Sindh. So it's about time PTI stop exaggerating its chances there and accept the reality, and invest their resources somewhere else.

It seems that Federal Govt. is determined that Rangers will not be called off from Karachi at any cost …**

KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Karachi on Monday, accompanied by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Water and Power and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Trade and Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir, but left without meeting the chief minister or the governor on the issue of Rangers’ powers.

Earlier, circles close to the PML-N appeared optimistic that Sharif will hold a meeting with Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on the discord between the centre and Sindh over Rangers’ powers.

An official press release about the premier’s visit had said: “PM Nawaz Sharif will visit Karachi on Monday (today). He will have three official engagements: visit Port Qasim Authority to review development plans of the authority; review Port Qasim’s power project and address an FPCCI function.”

The prime minister left for Port Qasim Authority (PQA) soon after CM Shah received him at Karachi airport as per the official protocol.

At PQA, Sharif reviewed development plans of the authority and progress of ongoing projects.
Chairman PQA Agha Jan Akhtar and Secretary Ports and Shipping Khalid Pervaiz briefed the premier about different ongoing projects executed by the authority.‏

In a light conversation with a Chinese engineer supervising development of a 1,320 MW coal-based power project, the premier asked the official to ensure the project is completed by Dec 2017.

The prime minister had himself laid foundation of the project, to be completed at a cost of $1.5 billion, Radio Pakistan reported.

It is the first power project being set up under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong, who was accompanying the PM, also joined the conversation, saying the Chinese government is fully supporting the project and will ensure the quality of the work is at par with the best in the world.

‘Savings of Rs100bn on three LNG power plants’**

The PM briefly spoke at a Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI) award ceremony, where he briefed attendees on ongoing and planned development and infrastructure projects in the country.

Addressing business people, foreign investors and partners, the PM lauded his government for successfully handling its biggest challenge: electricity. From January onward, he said, the tariff of electricity would be decreased by 3 per cent (pc), he announced.

The premier said that by 2017-2018, 10,000 megawatts of electricity would be introduced to the national grid, and that by 2025, an additional 15,000MW would be produced.

The PM said work has started on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)-run power plants, and that the total expenditure on LNG power plants so far has been 40pc less than its budgeted cost. “That is a major difference. We have saved Rs100 billion on three power plants,” he stated.

Referring to Karachi’s security situation, the PM commented that the Rangers’ operation ─ as “difficult” as it is ─ was a testament to his government’s commitment to rooting out terrorism and extremism from Pakistan.

“Look at Pakistan three years ago,” he said. “Look at Karachi seven years ago, and then look at Pakistan and Karachi today. There is no comparison.”

PM Nawaz expressed confidence that foreign investors and exporters who had previously refused to come to Karachi and discuss business would now arrive in droves due to his government’s efforts.

“In six to eight months, the ones who did not want to come will now call you and ask you to invite them,” he said.

Re: Rangers operation in Karachi

I mentioned the possibility (a good one) of PTI wiping out diesel. But, you will eventually lose that as well w/o the federal govt. PTI / imran still cry for federal powers as PTI still hasn't been able to reopen the shuttered industrial units in your area.

As far as PTI being held to a different standard, are you guys the one doing the whole 'naya pakistan' 'insaf' hopey changey slogans from 1996? If anything, it is PTI that has painted itself in the corner and in fact, got seats because of it as you don't have any charismatic leaders or people with governance records until now. Lets fact it: imran or even nawaz sharif in his speeches might try the tone, but they don't have the mettle of bhutto.

Re: Rangers operation in Karachi

and why not? PTI made all the noises about 'dynastic politics/wadera politics', so if PTI joins same people who it keeps criticizing then why should it not be stoned to death?

Re: Rangers operation in Karachi

Don't get too carried away with your stoning PTI to death wish. The post implied that Noon's a threat to PTI to Sindh, and has more chances of gaining stronghold, to me simple matter of the fact is that Noon can gain stronghold in Sindh by making alliances (and get away with it) whereas PTI can't! Simple as that. Gaining ground in Sindh/Karachi got nothing to do with merit or ideology.

PTI has absoloutely no chance of winning Karachi and Sindh, no matter how many nice and noble slogans it chants. That's a reality.

Re: Rangers operation in Karachi

....And that's fine. What's wrong with that? I'm just stating the bloody obvious that that Noon is better equip to make in roads in Sindh due to the space they have for making alliances whereas PTI cannot. Simply because people will rip them apart as they judge them according to PTI's own standards (not Pakistani politics' standards) and to me that's says more about PTI, than moral brigade that thrashes them on every nitty gritty.

As with Bhutto....please! He was a career politician and a Kingly feudal, held 'Prime Minister in waiting' post as foreign Minister, was groomed by a charismatic dictator and supported by establishment. Imran never claimed to be a career/professional politician that was Bhutto.

I'd say Ayub Khan had a good taste who decided to make Bhutto his blue eyed boy whereas Zia ul Haq came up with toads like Altaf Hussain and Nawaz Sharif.

Re: Rangers operation in Karachi

My wish? LoL… I used your own words and now you make it my wish :hehe:

Re: Rangers operation in Karachi

Teggy, Syed led by a Captain.

The three PTI stoning musketeers.

You made alliances with JI who even got imran arrested in punjab university! Necessity is the mother of lota :D

As far as bhutto goes, I would say it was Iskandar Mirza's sifarish or umm his wife's sifarish in favor of bhutto to her husband who did TC to ayub in return.

But lets not digress to much . Bhutto proved his mettle when he got in, just like Geo putting one-man tonga party on every show got imran his name recognition. Old PTV days might not have been so kind to imran.
