Has anybody watched this Palestinian film? It is absolutely fabulous.
It’s about a Palestinian girl living in Jerusalem with her father. Her father wants her to get married and gives her a list of eligible bachelors whom she has to choose from … and she has until 4:00 p.m. to decide on a groom and get married or else she has to move to Egypt with her father. Actually, the father gives her the list months before but she leaves it literally till the last minute to do something about her love life. She wants to marry her actor boyfriend who is obviously not on the list. The movie depicts the final 10 hours in the girl’s life leading up to 4:00 p.m. … and ultimately, her wedding!
Throughout the entire film, the director subtly invokes themes revolving around the Jewish occupation and the hardships Palestinians have to endure day in and day out under Jewish control. In my opinion, it’s very tastefully and artistically portrayed, particularly in the fnal 20 minutes of the movie. The movie is about Rana’s attempt to get married and the movie really illustrates how she’s living in this crazy society that is just so extreme at times.
It is a foreign film obviously but I highly recommend everybody watch it.
