Rana won't be part of a first choice fast bowling unit which should comprise of Asif, Amir and Gul... but today's loss isn't Rana's fault or the fault of any bowler.
we need to have a hard look at the batting strategy in ODIs. Nazir will never learn to bat... he does NOT have a brain. he is not the solution to our opening woes. Kamran throws his wicket away after 30s and 40s. Younis blocks and blocks in the name of dropping anchor but never drops the anchor... when he inevitably gets out at the worst possible time, he puts too much pressure on others who not only have to preserve wickets to prevent the team from getting bowled out early but also have to resurrect the run rate which Younis kills with his blocking...
He didn't do well today but can't blame Rana for today's loss. All pace bowlers got hammered during the powerplays. Besides, our batsmen should ideally have done the same to NZ during the powerplays but unfortunately, we don't have the batsmen to do so.
Gul hasnt done much either...I know Rana shouldnt be in the team but Gul's record of late isent all that impressive either. He leaks runs and doesent get wickets against top sides in tests and ODIS....this is a worrying trend.
People keep saying Gul is our strike bowler but being the standout bowler in 20-20 cricket isent anything to write home about.
For all his issues, Asif is a strike bowler who gets wickets...so does Shoaib Akhter. Gul needs to be told we expect more of him...otherwise Pakistan's first choice attack should be - when fit - Shoaib Akhter, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif..with Gul carrying drinks..
As for Rana, having the Captain as one of your best buddies doesent hurt....
