Ramchand Pakistani meets expectations

RAWALPINDI: Ramchand Pakistani was screened formally at Cinepax on Friday pulling large crowds of viewers.

Javed Jabbar is producer and writers of the film and his daughter Mahreen Jabbar its director. It is based on true story of a Hindu Dalit family, living close to Indian border in Pakistan.

Father Shankar and son Ramchand are its main characters. Both crossed over to India by mistake and were detained there for over five years on charges of espionage. Ramchand’s mother and other family members were kept in the dark over his whereabouts.

Viewers found it an effective step to revive cinema culture. Muhammad Umer, a businessman, told Daily Times he never watched such a movie. He said it proved Pakistan had a talent in the film industry.

He said the film had driven home the concept of good relations between India and Pakistan.

Robina Iftikhar, a schoolteacher, said watching the film was an unforgettable experience. She said it brought out harsh realities of life. She said the movie could be watched with family. She called for production of more such films.

Naseem Ahmed, a housewife, said the movie was a visual treat and the performance of all actors was good. She said the film would serve to bring a change in Pakistani cinema industry.

Rafya Muhammad, a student, said the film had given her something new, as its storyline was original. The film, she said, had made it clear that the people were paying the price for tense relations between the two countries.

Waqar Ahmed, a student, also praised the movie. Cinepax Manager (Operations) Imran Mumtaz said more crowds of viewers were expected today night (Saturday).

Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film

I kinda want to know what the paanwalas and truck drivers think...

The film is apparently doing well at the multiplexes. I just got an email from Cinepax Rawalpindi which says that they plan to run the film on the same times (4 shows a day) till mid-August. After which they may adjust the times if the audience volume recedes.

We watched the film in a nearly empty hall. You want to know why? Do go through my review and leave a comment…

i watch the movie on DVD. Its really a good movie. Maria Wasti was good as an inspector.

Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film

hmmmm i have seen the movie...i would say it was ok nothing extra-ordinary, the story lacked something..it ended in a happily lived after way.....when it ended i was like wat it just ended like that....maria was impressive in her role n everyone else played their roles good too but i think the film could hv been much better (i think khuda ke liye was better) but it was a good attempt as to revive pak cinema
