Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film
I wonder if this film will be received by Pakistani audiences as openly as the Jabbars are hoping for. I've read some of the articles on their website and they keep saying that humanity is emphasized in the film instead of religion. I dont know much about the film yet cuz I havent seen it, but I wonder that in an attempt to win over bollywood they might have unnecessarily demonized the Pakistani Muslims in the film. I hope that it's a great film and is actually true to the story and not based on someone's bias.
And CodeRed, I completely agree! Why cant we make a light romantic comedy or something? Are we not funny and romantic as a nation anymore or what?
Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film
Looks pretty good, its going to clear the censors for certain (its a javed jabbar production) and will possibly be well received in the multiplexes. NOT a mianstream film by any means, neither does it have the star power of Khuda Ke Liye.
Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film
Pehle sab complains shuru kar do about mainstream movies. Let's somewhat stabilize our industry, sorta put it on a creative path and then maybe we'll see *good *mainstream films. For now, I'll take parallel cinema anyday.
Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film
It'll probably get more international attention. They're gearing to open it up to worldwide viewing, I believe. I hope they accomplish that. Yahoo has it up on their website.
As for light filmain...well weren't there recent attempts? Aap ne Salakhain, Pehla Pehla Pyar, and Koi Tujh Sa Kahan nahi dekha?
Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film
have not watched tujh sa kahan and pehla pyaar, but salakhain was definitely not "light" cinema. We've been waiting for ages for those very talented and enlightened video directors in Karachi and Lahore t ocome up with something, but years have gone by and nothing has materialized! Kya mazaaq hai yaar -- it should not be THAT hard to come up with a great script and a financier to back that up. These guys are within the showbiz industry after all and probably have a network to back them up. Maybe they;re just apathetic towards cinema?
As for this film, I seriously hope it does well in the theaters. Zibahkhana managed to do very well in Islamabad after all, so these guys shouldn't have a problem if they market the film well. The budget is around $500K and they have plenty of sponsors.
Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film
I think there is definitely an apathy towards cinema. That, and people are more secure with their saas-bahu type dramas where they're financially secure about getting paid vs. delving into a film industry that has a history of financial failures. It comes down to the paisa, my friend, like I've said before. If the prospect of a promising team is there, and people know the film has a reasonable chance of doing well and recovering its money, then they'll do it. Otherwise, people don't want to take the chance and lose all they have in one film.
Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film
so its May 12 now, anybody seen this movie yet?
and any idea how i can watch this movie in Toronto?
Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film
boring. no chat masala and samosay in it.
for once I agree..
Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film
looks interesting...when does it release...??
Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film
The film looks great, but I have issues with the casting of Nandita Das. Iraj Manzoor was brilliant in her portryal of a vengeful woman of the desert in Najam Sheraz's Pal do pal ki chaahat mein, *and would have suited perfectly for the character played by the Indian actress. And Iraj can act -- just watch her in Behti Naar* from Rushk's excellent album. She would have made an excellent addition the local talent available for films.
Re: Ramchand Pakistani - film
i saw this movie at the 'tribeca film festival' in newyork, very very good movie! i was soooooooooo proud, hum sey achi storytelling koi nahi karta, excellent acting, direction...maria wasti is awesome in it. its soon to be released in pakistan i hear, do see it, u wont miss the 'mirch masala' trust me!! it keeps you gripped from beginning to end. it was very well recieved here, by both desis and goras. we need these movies to convince everyone that we are so much more than the lies the media spreads about us!
