Ramadi bomb kills playing children

Ramadi bomb kills playing children

A car bomb attack near a football field in the Iraqi city of Ramadi has killed 18 youngsters according to state television and defence officials.

Iraqi television station Iraqiya said on Tuesday that the blast had been caused by a car bomb.

Police said it was a roadside bomb and that the field was near a US military base.

Sheikh Hamid al-Hais, deputy head of a council of Sunni tribal chiefs opposed to al-Qaeda, said: “The bombers have no humanity. Eighteen boys were killed, the oldest one was 15. Dozens more were wounded.”

The offices of Nuri al-Maliki, Iraq’s prime minister, and Jalal Talabani, the president, both issued statements condemning the blast that they said killed 18 people.
Al-Maliki’s office said the dead included 12 children, while Talabani’s office said all 18 were children.

Controlled blast

Sheikh Hamid said the truck, loaded up with logs, was parked next to the pitch and detonated as the boys played.
A defence official confirmed that 18 children were killed and 20 wounded in the latest attack
However, the US military told reporters that it was unaware of the bomb attack and had earlier undertaken a controlled blast in the city.

Major Jeff Pool, a US military spokesman, said the blast by US soldiers near a football field in Ramadi had slightly wounded 30 people, including nine children. Pool said it was carried out in the courtyard of a building where bags of explosives had been found and that the wounded had cuts and bruises.

Windows from a nearby building were blown out, causing the wounds. Pool said US forces helped evacuate those injured.
He said: “I can’t imagine there would be another attack involving children without our people knowing.”

The major said the controlled blast in Ramadi was “stronger than we had expected”.
The US military often carries out controlled explosions in Iraq to destroy captured weapons or unexploded bombs.
Referring to the football attack, a police colonel in Ramadi, who declined to be identified, said a suicide bomber had detonated a truck bomb and put the time of the explosion at about 5pm.

Attacks
Ramadi is the capital of Anbar province, the base for Sunni Muslim fighters in Iraq, and is fast becoming a battlefront between rival Sunni factions.

A truck bomb near a Sunni mosque in the city killed 52 people on Saturday, a day after the mosque’s imam had made a speech criticising al-Qaeda in Iraq, which is entrenched in the area

On Monday, a suicide bomber blew up an ambulance at an Iraqi police station near Ramadi, killing 14 people including women and children.
The attacks have signalled increasing conflict between al-Qaeda and Sunni tribal leaders opposed to the group, officials have said.
The incidents underscore the violence gripping Iraq, even as US and Iraqi forces step up a new security plan in Baghdad. Washington is sending extra troops to Anbar.[/size]

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

Al-Qaeeda’s wrong doings continue!

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

I remember the good old days when every bomb that went off had a claimant...Nowadays a bomb goes off and we are programmed to automatically believe that it was Al-Qaeda...

If pointing fingers means being a fool, then we truly live in a fool's world...

CIA seems to be getting desperate now...

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

Khusiani billy khambay noochay! When muslims are so powerless thay they can not compete the west, they are resorting to terrorist attacks!

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

And foolish and misguided people keep on supporting Al-Aaeda and likes!

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

As they have been doing with the muslims in Pakistan who do not follow their version of Islam!

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

Al-Qaeeda and Taleban should realize that they can not defeat the west with sword. The worst conditions of muslims were during the mongol invasion of the Islamic world. Millions of muslims were killed by them. That never happened before and after that.

Muslims failed to defeat the Mongols! But Mongols succumbed to Islam and converted in great numbers later on.

The same is the case with the west these days. The difference between the west and Islamic world in terms of S&T and military power is of about 500 years. We can not defeat them now.

The only way you can defeat them is the peaceful teachings of Islam (as done by the Tableeghi Jamat). Even you can not covert your own muslims by force.

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

Do you remember the good ol' days when Saddam was killing Muslims and nary a peep from people like you? If we think Muslims are not killing Muslims today in Iraq, including women and children, then we truly are fools.

Those who claim righteousness for all Muslims and evil on all things American, truly are getting desperate to explain the heinous acts.

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

it was a US military blast.. they just have this knee jerk reaction to hide behind Al-Qayda whenever sh*t happens..

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

And apologists, conspiracy theorists, blame displacers, deniers and those who otherwise have their head in the sand or in darker places have the knee jerk reaction to blame Americans when Muslims massacre Muslims. Good God, even al jazeera reports the fight between sunnis and al-Qaeda.

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

^^

That actually is not a knee jerk reaction...It is a reaction brought on by years proven history of a people from distributing disease laden blankets as a sign of goodwill to its leaders claiming off handed acceptance of almost 2 million dead, ruthlessly killing millions in other nations through horrendous chemical, nuclear and depleted uranium ammo...

After such callousness, do you still think it's a knee jerk reaction?

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

^^Yes, I do. Your off-topic, diversionary blabble aside, there is a much more recent history of ruthless killing in Iraq of Muslims by Muslims. Unfortunately there wasn't a knee jerk or any other kind of reaction from you crocodile-teared johnny-come-latelys to the plight of Iraqis until now.

If you want to judge others from past attrocities and lack of helping anyone in need, be prepared to be judged yourself. You speak as if all you defend is squeaky-clean and perfect. And frankly it is far from that.

This cycle of sunnis killing shias, shias killing sunnis, shias kiling shias and everyone killing innocent men, women and children will not stop if everyone has their head buried like you.

So continue to preach from your soapbox as it crumbles beneath you. The ones you pretend to mourn for will continue to be slaughtered.

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

I heard that this story was fake

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

what stinks about this is that apparently sunni extremists bombed a sunni mosque, then bombed sunni kids playing football. somethings not right here in the reporting or have i missed some new development in iraq?

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

Yeah…It’s hard to sometimes differentiate between the two…

Re: Ramadi bomb kills playing children

hmmm
im not actually accusing shias. the news report i watched mentioned the mosque imam telling worshippers to reject extremism. the mosque got bombed(ok i can comprehend extremists targeting mosque worshippers for that only at a push) then the kids playing football were killed in same town not known like baghdad for its bombings. is this the work of someone who has only been briefed on the type of violence they should be creating? ie someone who refers to iraqis as eyeraqis, shias to sheeyas - basically a white person
