Ramadan is a month when many Muslim conquests took place:

  1. Battle of Badr (Surah Al-Anfaal)
  2. The Conquest of Makkah (Surah al-Nasr)
  3. The Conquest of Spain
  4. The Conquests of Salahuddeen
  5. The Battle of `Ayn Jaloot
  6. The Battle of Shaqhab

What is Jihad?

Recently I was reading on this gupshup that Jihad is an inner struggle, is struggle for peace so and so....And over all Islam is peace.

And here the talk is entirly different.

"Fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not transgress limits. God does not love the transgressors" (Qur'an 2:190).

This is an unequivocal statement that only self-defense makes war permissible for Muslims and the goals of war cannot be worldly gain.

The term Jihad has never been translated by Muslims to mean holy war. Instead, it means to struggle or exert oneself to his or her utmost potential. In Islam, there are two levels of jihad. The greater jihad most often refers to the inner struggle against evil within oneself with the goal of self-improvement for the betterment of one's community and the world as a whole. The lesser jihad refers to the struggle on the battlefield in self-defense if Muslims have been attacked and their right to practice their faith has been aggressively taken away.

:k: :k: Couldn’t agree more.

May Allah Bless us with the courage to undertake the true inner and outer jihads in our lives.

Definition of Conquest: The act or process of conquering, or acquiring by force; the act of overcoming or subduing opposition by force, whether physical or moral; subjection; subjugation; victory.

Doesn't sound very "defensive" to me.

Is there a term for when you are under threat, get invaded you attack back and win… what is that called? :konfused: … “liberation” :ahaa:

war is not the same as jihad, many use the term incorrectly. anyways, thats a diff topic innit, kinda pops up in many threads though :) should prolly just make a jihad/crusade/holywar/confusion thread and just sort it there for once and for all :D

Hello Changez, I will not ask you to stick to the topic. I like to live in a freedom/ liberation, because here I am not afraid of any religious dogmas. No one will chase me if I reject the miracles of my God/Gods.
Or you want to say that liberation and freedom are fake and so is Jihad?

Jaggaji, Why you people need to explain Jihad? What is the complex? I have never seen a student saying that he is on Jihad (inner or outer) at examination hall.
Jihad is not a Holy war. Pls explain it to your Jihadis.

INTRO:

Simply Jihad is struggle aginst suppressors .................which simpy mean QITAAL FI SABEEL ALLAH ...........but it has very strict criteria..........so u dont have to worry about qitaal ...............
HOLY WAR?:

well yahudi who are u to explain our deen to us.....jihad indeed is a holy war ...........thats what quran says.....458 ayah of quran explains jihad ....and unfortunately to liberal moderate muslims , they explicitly explains outer jihad(qitaal)

During the first 2 weeks of Ramadan, the month of Jihad, 34 soldiers occupying Iraq have been killed by that land's believers.

That's nearly twice the average rate during the months prior to Ramadan.
