two days ago, i went to this Indian Restaurant on Gerrard Street, the India Bazaar, to buy some food for take-out…a well dressed lady walked up to me and asked for help saying, “she doesn’t have a job and that she doesn’t have money to buy things in Ramadhan.” … i felt pity for this woman and i gave her a good amount. the restaurant owner was talking about this lady. i was shocked to learn that she is a professional beggar and that she is there all the time asking for help, often persistently asking! it’s against the law here to intimidate or harass people for money. i dunno how she manages to continue intimidating people. i guess no one calls the police. she was kicked out from the restaurant a few minutes earlier.

People then start giving zakat etc to people they know and avoid helping anyother needy person due to such incidents
