Gossiping/backbiting - tough one!

We’ve become conditioned to not minding our own business: we must be in the know about everything and everyone - whether local gossip news, work politics and/or family/friends’ activities. What’s the proof for that? Our obsession with facebook and Instagram and other social networking tools. By ‘we’ I mean generally those living the first world pop culture.

I find it very hard not to discuss the above-listed things and that is where gossiping and consequently backbiting as defined by Islam comes in. Very hard to mind our own business these days without feeling like we’re living under a rock.

For those who say they don’t gossip or indulge in two-facedness, tell us how you manage that and what your social life looks like. Very curious.

Once you absolutely convict yourself to not deliberately backbite about others, it really isn’t that hard

Had a pretty decent social life before moving countries, and somehow a lot of people trusted me with their secrets/ issues… but Alhumdulillah i have never not once leaked that information from here to there. Even when someone posts VERY behooda pics of themselves on fb and make no effort to keep these pics private… I’d still never mention it to anyone voluntarily.

Also the fact that the person i backbite about TAKES my good deeds and I take their sins into my account is a pretty good incentive to keep the gossiping at bay.
