Ramadan is just around the corner IA. In the scorching heat and in this holy month, I am sure we dont want to spend all our day in the kitchen and wasting the oppurtunity to gather maximum blessings of the holy month.
no prep, plenty of plans. InShaaAllah i’ll be making and freezing the staples – filled puff pastry pockets, spring rolls, kebabs/burger patties. the rest, i think, will be fresh fruit salad, lots of yoghurt-based quick fixes like dahi phulki and veg raaitas to keep it light, healthy and filling. will make and freeze parathas as well, quicker to just take them out and fry them up than make them from scratch in the morning.
For some reason this time around I’ve not gotten a chance to prep at all.
Usually I stock up on Kajoors/Rooh Afza and freeze up a good amount of samosa and egg rolls.
Not much else I can do…
I will be freezing some spring rolls with chicken and perhaps a few pizza bases as well for the days where I’m going to be lazy. The rozey will be really long and I usually like to cook because time pass ho jata hai easily. Other than the cooking stuff I’ve to clean the entire house upside down, clean all the windows (there are just tooo many), empty our basement, wash all bedsheets etc and curtains as well. I don’t know exactly how I’m going to do this before ramadan but well let’s see now.
I’m planning on de-cluttering the whole house before Ramadan inshallah. I figure the less clutter, the less mess and the less time wasted on clearing up. Well that’s the plan.
I’ll be freezing keema mixed for kebabs.
chutneys
some patties (maybe chicken/aloo
baray
some pakoray
Sfc
I’ve already bought 100x veg samosas and 50 meat ones-as back up.
I will also freeze some pilao masala just in case.
Knocking up a handi if needed isn’t a problem-I use pre-fried onions and tinned tomatoes!
I will freeze some ‘ice and slice’ lemon ice cubes. Will freeze sliced lemons too. Oh and some freshly made ginger and lemon syrup cubes. Oh and some coffee cubes for iced coffee.
I made some chicken shami kababs last week.I like having them in sehri.
Bought dates and rooh afza.Still need to buy besan for the occasional pakoras.I don’t think I will be making anything extra to freeze.
I will be getting meat/chicken/mince etc, enough to last me the entire month so meal planning is a bit easier.
Don’t be sad about it…Ramadan is a month of self reflection and also of happiness. I love the spirit of Ramadan…everyone is in complete and total concentration. You can feel it. But let’s be honest, people bond over meals. That’s why eating together is stressed as a family. Iftaar is the time of day we eat and since everyone is fasting…breaking it together is not only common sense but a source of happiness.
Maybe you can open up a thread about how people are making Ramadan special within their families for their kids?
If you are in household forum, it’ll be about food
Ramadan is sahoor (eating at dawn) and iftar (eating at sunset) and ibadah in between and after..so yes, it is not ALL about food but neither is it all without food and unlike most of the men who get to woken up right in time for sahoor while ladies of the house prepare and set up the table midnight and then preparing food while fasting themselves for kids in afternoon and for iftar in evening, the poor women have to do some planning and discussing before time so all goes easy on them during ramadan. (Yeah yeah we know you are a helpful man who cooks and sets up tables etc etc etc and are an exception here)
If you can take out time to read the first post, we talked about ideas on preparing food prehand so we can do maximum ibadah in ramadan instead of staying in kitchen all day long so yes, we are equally concerned and worried about ibadah and self control while keeping other duties in mind as well
yeah but may be we should stress more on dinner than Iftar…two meals within an hour or two ius over-indulgence and bad for health. how about Iftar with just dates and beverage followed by dinner after maGhrib?
maiN en thread kholi to 1 post ke ba’d band ho jaayegii
oh yes, i didn’t realize the thread was in Household forum…my apologies.
i agree, women take all the burden of Ramadhan. Allah will bless them, iA.
btw, i’m NOT one of those men who see women working and not help them. i do help y Bhabhi all the time whenever i am home. i let her sleep at saHri time and i set the table for my her, my bro and myself before she comes down for the saHrii.
We have exclusive Ramazan at our part of globe where our opening rozas will be couple of mins less than 12 hours and we have cosy winters here Alhamdulillah. But yes preps are on so that less to do in kitchen and more to optimize the blessings of this sacred month. Im gonna do following
Aaloo Samosas and Chicken Qeema samosas
Barhey also to be freeze
Egg cheese rolls
Falafil mixture
Kababs/cutlets
Chicken veggie filled puff pastries
Im thinking to experiment in nowadays to freeze dough to see how it goes
May be some pizza topping prepared
Chicken roast marinated
I would be starting preps next weel as this weekend would shop for everything required insha’Allah. May Allah enable us to extract maximum benefit from this month of Rehmat, Forgiveness and relief from the hell fire. Ameen
PS: we just do iftar and no dinner and since last year i try to put healthy things in iftar and only 1/2 fried items
We make a mixed vegetable filling which will be used for premade samosay. Sometimes we use cheese, which is also delicious and a time saver. That’s really the only item that’s made in advance. Other items like fruit chaat/dehi chaat/gol guppay/pakoray/tikkiyan are made the day of.
Ramzan groceries include dates, chutneys, guava juice for fruit chaat, mango squash drink, etc. If any of you are an imli addict like myself, try Laxmi/Lakshmi brand imli concentrate. Stuff is rich and just yumm. The jar of concentrate is much better than readymade imli ki chutneys.
