The holy month just started and newspapers are full of complaints about goods being sold at double prices in Pakistan. Its rightly said Ramadan season to earn profits.
People started saying that all over the world religious occasions and festivals bring bumper sales offer, discounts, etc but in Pakistan its totally opposite. Heard someone saying that even Muslims living in India are lucky enough that they also get discounts during Ramadan and don’t face hoardings.
My query is this true that prices of commodities don’t go high during Ramadan? Are the prices under control during Diwali & Holi?
Yes never saw prices of basic commodities like fruits and vegetables raised during any festival

How is the overall festivity during Ramadan in India? I mean whether the change in routine can be observed by all?

Re: Ramadan in Hindustan
I think we call this Pheni. If it is the same then it is not specific to festivals, It is commonly served in weddings etc. So one can relish this all year round any day without waiting for an occasion

Though its available on selected outlets all round the year, but they are available everywhere during Ramadan here in Pakistan, that makes it Ramadan specialty.
Same here its ramzan speciality in our part and its called pheni
Re: Ramadan in Hindustan
Hmm... must be a regional thing. :) I remember eating it at different times of the year. Dad used to get pheni and rasgollas for occasions like us topping class, getting a bonus etc since. I have lost count as to how many times I have eaten it at weddings of relatives. I am not sure of other states but in mine we can find that in sweet shops year round.

By how much does price of vegetables and fruits etc go up? In my part of the world it does shoot up by 50-60% but not double. Now-a-days they advertise sales on clothing and Gold during Diwali but not sure by how much. WE always bought jewelry or clothes during regular time and kept them aside to first use during festivals when I was a kid,

not really. My classmates would give us sweets but unfortunately as a kid I never got a chance to go to their houses in the evening since they lived far away and we had no muslim neighbors nearby.

It varies from city to city and province to province depending how price control authorities work (they don't work effectively in most cases). The Price has hiked by 60% in most of the cases and in case of certain commodities its increased by 100%. Besides this, substandard goods are also sold at higher prices.
