Ramadan Drinks

Rooh Afza in Milk or otherwise had been the hallmark of Ramadan in our household, recently we moved to another smoothie.

Here is how we make it for 4 people:

  • 2 servings (glass to be served in) of 2% milk (cos the whole will kill ya  )
  • 2 scoops of Vanilla ice cream [Fat Free for the fatties]
  • A can of Fanta.

Mix the first two and let it cool in the fridge along side the Fanta can. A few minute before aftar, mix in the Fanta and shake the mixture well!

:yummy:

Please share your special Ramadan drinks.

Chai ka cup

Slightly off topic - does anyone know what those black thingies floating in rooh afza and milk are called?. Someone said Tukhmay Malanga :konfused:

Are they sold in USA desi stores? What should I look for?

at our place , fresh fruit juices are all time favourite .....

i daily extract juice from carrots , apples n sometimes oranges too!

n if i'm in a very good mood , i actually take pain of adding a few pomegranates too!

yum yum!!!

pomegarantes are so yummy in fruit chaat.

fg, do you put ailaichi in your chai?

Afia, what carrots do you use for the juice? The orange ones from the super market don't give out anything. They are truly no match for the red juicy ones in Pakistan.

Fanta and ice-cream? :hoonh:

It’s always been Rooh Afza in milk, or sometimes Rooh Afza in water. Yum.

Freshly made juice is always good too.

Ceebz, try it out and see the family go tun. Yeah, don't be lazy.

aj, i don’t put ilaichi in chai.

Cheater!

CB, pardon me?

:D

Pardon you for what? :-p

For calling me a cheater

I broke my smoothie maker :( I turned it on with a spoon inside! The blades r still okay but one of the clips that holds the jug in place broke. The dumb thing doens't work with just two of them. I discivered that when I asked mum to make some milkshake yesterday and the milk flew all over the place :D Zyada daant bhi nahi pari.

Why can't you be calm and sensible like Kiran in the kitchen?.

:(
I always am! She just stands there anyway, it;s not like she does anything besides holding chamchas and making space on the counter. How did the bloody spoon get in there? Lemme think.

YESSS!!! I was making lemonade. And I picked out some lemon seeds with the spoon. Since I had another lemon to go I left the spoon in there to pick out the rest of the seeds. Being oversmart I squeezed the last lemon over a large holes wali seive and thought to myself, if I forget to take the spoon out it will be such a mess. I must remember. Needless to say I didn't!

Good save. :snooty:

I posted this in irem's iftari thread and copying and pasting for yours now :)

For drinks this year, along with Rooh Afza, we are having home made badam ka sharbat. Heres the recipe:

Badam ka Sharbat

1 cup almonds, soaked in water, peeled
3 cups sugar
2 cups water
cardamom seeds, from about 10 pods or so

Grind the almonds along with a little bit of water and cardamoms until really really fine. Strain through a piece of cloth or like me through a fine sieve. Add water, sugar and cook until there is a thick consistency syrup. This is supposed to be very very thick when done.

Cool, pour into sterilised jars/bottles and refriegerate. Enjoy a tbsp or two in your glass of milk or water at iftari.

This recipe will make approx. 8-10 ounces I imagine, so adjust quantities for as much sharbat you want. THe ratio should remain the same as above.

^ Hey Ira,

We make badaam ka sharbat every day too (yummy!!!!) but different receipe:

we take badaam (soaked and peeled), grounded khashkash (the little sand like stuff) - about 1/a tsp, milk and sugar

blend it all together

We have to have this every day otherwise iftaar seems incomplete :)

^^, Rukhsar, now thats something iw ould call a badaam ka milkshake :D. Sharbat-e-Badam is cooked until thick and later added to milk r water like rooh afza etc.

I tried this for 3 days in a row.
The third day I got really sick of it.

Anyway here is the recipe.

Make a milkshake containing apples, almonds, and dates.
Go easy on the dates or it gets really nasty.
