I am MashaAllah 20 weeks pregnant! By the time Ramadan starts I am going to be around 21 weeks in sha Allah! I want to fast; did anyone fast during pregnancy? My pregnancy had been risk free MashaAllah and Alhamdulillah! I know I have to ask a doctor but doctors in Canada get a little paranoid with this issue! I also know it isnt mandatory for me now but I want to keep them and repent for all the bad deeds/actions ! Plus, who wants to miss Ramadan? Can I try one and see how it goes? Will it put my child in danger ? Im doing it for Allah ! And I am spending Ramadan with my family/parents instead of in laws and want to make most of it ! Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated! This is my first baby! Thank you lovelies x
I would not keep a 16 hour roza while pregnant. I had 2 back to back pregnancies that fell during Ramadan and ebf’d all 3 of my kids and I did not fast at all during those periods. I made up 3 years worth of fasting little by little after I was done with it all.
I don’t think you should be taking this unnecessary guilt upon yourself. There is plenty other forms of ibadat you can do (tarawee, charitable endeavors) to reap the rewards, and make up the rozas later.
You will get more sawab by taking care of yours and your unborn’s health. Please dont put your self in a burden that is not an obligation on you under the circumstances.
in Islam, if a concession is given by Allah, we are supposed to take it…and, as TLK said, you get more sawaab to maintain a trouble free pregnancy. if you insists on fasting that would constitute “jufraan-e-ne’mat” [denial of Allah’s bounties and be unappreciative]
i would highly recommend and suggest that you skip fast this year. iA, you’ll have time and fit to fast.
beTii yaa beTaa mubaarak ho…Allah use aapkii aaNkhoN kii ThanDak banaaye aur Allah uskii deen o dunyaa donoN saNwaare…aameen
Priority is your baby’s health, above any guilt or feelings…
I dunno, if your pregnancy is smooth and you’re not on some sort of special diet or anything…do it. You can make up all the nutrients between iftari-sehri. But if you can’t, it’s OK.
Personally if I were pregnant, I’d make a best effort in the winter months…
Thank you everyone ! I spoke to my mum and sisters and they told me second half of pregnancy is very crucial in terms of babys growth and I should refrain from fasting! Allah will give me a chance next year to enjoy Ramadan ! Meanwhile I can also fast in winter months little by little In sha Allah! Thanks everyone xx
Walai kum assalam. Congrats on the pregnancy. I am 24 weeks pregnant. Will be 25 weeks by next week & don’t plan on fasting. I have gestational diabetes so my body or the growing baby simply can’t afford to starve & God forbid have extremely high or low glucose levels. Either can result in improper organ development in the baby.
I know quite a few women who have fasted in their second & third trimesters & have delivered completely normal & healthy babies. But as everyone said religiously you are exempt from it, then why take a chance.
I was not able to fast in my first pregnancy either & unfortunately despite attempting to I was not able to make up my fasts in the past four years. This time around I just inquired how much “fidya” I should be giving for each missed fast & multiplied that by 30 days & we will be using that money to sponsor Ramadan ration bags for needy families. I still plan on continuing other spiritual things I try to do every Ramadan so InshaAllah I don’t feel like I am missing out on the blessings of this beautiful month. Maybe look into that option for your own peace of mind.
OP when Allah grants us relief from particular obligations, we should avail it and trust in His Wisdom. He granted us mothers relief from rozas during pregnancy and BFing therefore you should not question it. I did not keep rozas during both periods either.
As everyone said do not fast…i was 21 weeks pregnant too when ramzan started and had no issues(before and in 2-3rd trimester)…I used to eat and drink water frequently…same routine with the breastfeeding(next year)…
There are so many other ways to do ibadat in ramzan…taraweeh…recite quran with translation…tahajjud…taasbeeh…etc
I think you shouldn’t fast when you’re this far along. You can just make them up later on. I did fast last year while I was pregnant but I had a complete different day routine so it was manageable plus I was only in my first trimester.
Thank you to everyone who replied ! Its such a sacred month and I will try to make most of it with Ibadaah and learning more about Islam! Cleansing away my soul while staying on top of nutrition for me and my baby! Please pray for my safe journey till thw delivery and post natal !
I see almost everyone is advising you against fasting and I won’t really argue. Personally however, out of the four times I skipped fasting just once and that was during my last pregnancy when my doctor strictly advised me to stop fasting as I had seriously low blood pressure all the time. Aside from that one time, I never had a problem alhamdulillah, however I don’t mean to say that no one will have a problem as I know everyone is different or rather I should say every pregnancy is different.
I don’t mean to judge or even give an opinion, just wanted to share my experience.
I would not keep rozas…baby needs to be fed after every 2-3hrs atleast(whether you are pregnant or bfeeding)…and Allah has allow us then why taking the chance?
^ you can’t just feed the poor but you are supposed to make up for the missed fasts.. Even if it takes lifetime.
Feeding the poor option is for those who are sick and will never be able to fast due to
sickness. Pregnant and breast feeding mothers, if the chose not to fast, have to make up for fasts.
You are not “automatically” exempt from Ramadan,as the common concept is , if you are pregnant or bfing but considering how long the day is, it probably isn’t a good idea to fast anyway. I still have to make up for my missed fasts and I have to admit it’s much easier to fast during Ramadan than on other days.. Such is the Barakah of this month.
