Ram Mohammad Singh Azad

Its 113th Birthday of the freedom fighter Udham Singh also known as ‘Ram Mohammad Singh Azad’?

Do anyone heard his name before?

Why is it a trend that a movement is totally dedicated to few top leaders and we forget the people like Udham Singh?

Re: Ram Mohammad Singh Azad

I dont know him, but why is his name composed of three different religious names?

Udham Singh the fighter who killed general dyer/dier?

Re: Ram Mohammad Singh Azad

I don't know him either...

Re: Ram Mohammad Singh Azad

yes the same guy.. Whats with the recent psyche of locals to detest every person who use arms even for killing the persons like Dyer, when west still glamourised knights who killed hundred innocent peoples during Crusades.

Re: Ram Mohammad Singh Azad

To show a secular side and respect for all the religions of the region

Re: Ram Mohammad Singh Azad

Is he eulogized in India?

Re: Ram Mohammad Singh Azad

I think he is known in India. In Pakistan, majority even don't know about General Dyre and Jalianwala Bagh Masacre. It is not promoted because, they incident convey that Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs were together in Independence fight. Our only concern is to promote that it was totally a polarised society based on religion.

Re: Ram Mohammad Singh Azad

He is well known in India as Shaheed Udham Singh, In UP there is city named after him. Secondly he didn't execute Brigadier General Dyer responsible for jalianwala bagh massacre but Lt Governor of Punajab, at the time of atrocity :)

Re: Ram Mohammad Singh Azad

can you guys please share more details, because I am totally blank about him, first time reading it

Re: Ram Mohammad Singh Azad

On baisakhi day 19 April 1919, on baisakhi day, crowd assembled in jaliawalan bag in Amritsar to oppose imprisonment of Dr Satyapal and Dr Saiffudin Kichlew. Brigadier General Dyer imposed law barring any political activity, people assembled in the bagh were shot, since there was only one entry/exit point people couldn't escape, many jumped into well which was with in the garden, more than 1000 people were killed but government claimed only 300.

General dyer was already dead before Udham Singh could locate him but for vengence he killed ex lt gen of punjab who was commander of Punjab in 1919.

Re: Ram Mohammad Singh Azad

O'Dwyer , as Lt Gov Punjab, was responsible for declaring martial law, under which Gen Dyer carried out the massacre. O'Dwyer was thus more culpable, and frankly, given his wholehearted support for General Dyer afterwards, massacring the Sikhs was most likely O'Dwyer's idea anyway.

Udham Singh got the right man.

The Ram Mohammed Singh Azad name was what he answered with in court at his trial when asked to give his name - he gave a symbolic name, indicating how he acted from all free Indians, Hindus, Muslim and Sikh alike.
