I have seen posts here claiming that Ram and Sita were brother and sister, and I wish to offer the correct version of the story:
The “Ramayana”, which is the Hindu epic that tells the story of Ram and Sita, clearly says that:
Ram was a prince of Awadha (modern-day U.P.), and
Sita was a princess of Vaideha (modern-day north Bihar).
These two characters had different mothers, different fathers, and infact different native kingdoms – so they are not siblings. Ram’s journey to the kingdom of Vaideha, his acceptance of the challenge of Sita’s father (the king of Vaideha), and his subsequent marriage to Sita are all significant events in the story. So, it is highly unlikely that anybody who has read the Ramayana can believe that Ram and Sita were siblings.

Asif_K is right, this is pointless... Whether Ram and Sita were brothers and sisters or not (quite frankly, I dont even know) doesnt matter to me at all as a Muslim, what matters to me is the fact that we respect each others views. Its apparent that when we say Ram and Sita are brothers and sisters, it hurts the views of the Hindus, so we ought to avoid that.
There are four or five versions of Ramayana existing in Asia. Balmiki Ramayana, re narrated by Tulsidas as Ram Charit Manas is the most popular version in India.
There is a Ramayana version in Cambodia, and most probably in that version Ram and Sita are brother and sister. As the family background of Ram in Cambodia Ramayana differs but attacking Ravana, Hanuman or rest is near about same.
Some bundle writer picked up the two or three different versions and made one of his own, as I have also read the same controversy.
(Ps, pls feel free to correct me, because I have not studied it thoroughly, have read a little or some Cambodian friends told long back.)
Thanks for clarifying that, Rohit. i admit i was/am not too clear on this aspect of Hinduism. So it was interesting to read this thread :) Thank you for sharing. Hope to see more threads from you in this Forum.
