No, thats not me. These words are by Liz Morrison, high school teacher in Manchester, Mo. (USA), in an effort to engage her students in a discussion of the attacks; two-thirds raised their hands.
====
I read this in this week’s (9/23/02) Time Magazine in their “Verbatim” section; and as politically incorrect as it may sound… I admire Time magazine for actually publishing it.
This is America. Raising hands is a freedom accorded to Americans by the constitution. Who wouldn’t be sick by 9/11? Perhaps only a handful of hate mongers.
It amazes me that how some people get so amazed by simple acts of the Americans, which is part of the American life. Freedom of expression is most dear to Americans. People from countries that are ruled by Dictators should get used to it, and bring this message home. Musharraf should ask all Pakistanis to raise hands if they are sick of him. Let's see what happens.
*>>Who wouldn’t be sick by 9/11? *
Not, "sick by", but "sick of", meaning the adnausium repeats of the events and the surrounding misery of the victims and the bravery of the emergency personnel.
All we see in the US media is how people are still mindful of what happened on 9/11/01 and how they want to keep the torch alive in remembrance (nothing wrong with that). There are many, who are really sick and tired of it all by now (they probably didn't lose any loved one on that day). US media does not afford these views much, or any, exposure.
Political correctness demands that they chop the head off Bill Maher, even if he was saying something which was essentially true and even if his basic premise is "politically incorrect" he can not be excused. So, the folks do take political correctness very seriously, even with all the freedom and such.
That is an old technique used by School Teachers to educate the kids about an issue and why the adults of the society feel the need to talk "of" an issue as you say adnauseam. Americans still talk about the attack on Pearl Harbor a lot. 9/11 is one of those days in American history that Americans will talk about and talk about and talk about and talk about to remind each other that they are at war that is most likely going to be still on when their grand kids are adults. The enemy is being "fleshed out" slowly. Yes this war is going to need bringing in one enemy combatant at a time. So Americans are going to educate the kids, so they do not forget that they are going to be fighting this war when they become adults. It is not only those who lost loved ones on 9/11, it is all those loved ones that are still alive and threatened that people are ready to fight for.
This wasnt the largest number of people to die in any ONE catastrophy…
In the words of Mafia in Mario Puzo 's ..God Father …“Things HAPPEN…” :roman:
Accidents HAPPEN
May be those sissy who have never experienced RAW death ,can be all sensitive about it .Didnt 70000 die in Vietnam ?What do i remember of them except same Platoon to Deer Hunter movies galore .Over & over Again …
I always feel sick of repitition of scenes concepts ideas or Themes.
:yukh:
I like fresh ideas one time …Thats it .
It seems americans are different in the sense, that they are outraged when their fellow citizens are mudered by fanatics, and are threatened with further mayhem and terror. I guess an attitude like the Europeans that accepted terrorism amongst their midst might have been considered more acceptable and civilized. Fortunately, we don't care for novelty and are quite willing to keep being reminded of the atrocity at regular intervals. Every year from here on out, Americans will lower the flags to half mast on Patriot Day and promise to bring justice to those who swear to kill us. And every year in American schools little childeren will raise their hands to answer some questions about why it is important to remember Patriot Day. And every year we will count how many of the terrorists have we brought in from the shadows and underneath the rocks, and from inside the caves, and from "hiding behind the trees".
I believe I said this before in some thread and Ill say it again...Nations that remember their History, honour their sacrafices and chronical their happenings( good and sad) are the ones that succeed..and I mean not the cliched success..I mean with reference to their personalities, their ideologies and their values..
Anyone who is sick of hearing about what happened on September 11 will have to accept the fact that it is an acknowledgment of the raw fact that it HAPPENED.
What the media in America can do now, though is turn the hype down a bit so the sensitivity remains and the respect grows.
Musharraf should ask all Pakistanis to raise hands if they are sick of him. Let's see what happens.
what will happen will be Faiz' dream come true...my dream come true..the day the awaam starts thinking for itself..it can be for or anti a regime/govt but the condition is to 'think' for itself....

I think there is a big difference in the terrorism that shook America and that which Europe faces ! Car bombing might be common place in Europe but sept 11th is hollywood film material ...
WELL ITS WHITE mans tears the whole world i shedding
1 million tutsis died in rwanda no body to cry over thier dead
5000 people died in bhopal in india co tears
4000 muslims massacared in srebrenica no tears
5000 muslims burned alive in gujrat no tears
and we all are crying over the sept 11 dead whoes number seems to have dropped from 5000 dead to just over 2000
If they have a poll like this in Pakistan, about how many children are sick of hearing about Kashmir and Palestine, the majority of the hands will go up, and then they would have to suffer the consequences... First Amendment, gotta love it...
