If i'm not mistaken Burman died!! no doubt that he was a gr8 music composer ppl speak highly of him, not just southern asians but westeners to.... rajesh khanna and kishore kumar will or should remain indebted to him as he did wonders for their careers....

Burman died a few yrs back, not sure exactly when.

some of his songs were so peppy, like mehbooba mehbooba, and monika o my darling.

  • burman actually sung that mehbooba mehbooba song himself in sholay :k: *

Mukesh shared the era but not the class of the masters.. I’d put Rafi right at the top of the list.. excellent vocal skills and a legend. Sonu Nigham reminds me of him.

Kishore was an entertainer.. and a very good one at that.. he matured as a singer late in his career.. remarkable singer with a signature voice. His son could never live up to the name..

Mukesh was given great songs with great compositions.. i’d rank him below Munnaday anyday.. His son Mittan was even worse.. imagine the same nasal tone but more feminine..

I just got an idea! Femme may sound like Mittan Mukesh :ahaa:

Film: Prem Geet
Raj Babbar, Anita Raj

I lov Songs by Rafi..

Kishore is my all time favorite! Do not like Rafi much but I do love his song "mujhe chooh rahee hain teri garm sansein"

After Kishore, Shaan, and then Sonu

refer to the Gupshup Idol thread in Audio gallery, I beat them all by a mile.

Muskesh was so nasal, even his kid turned out to be a nasal singer. I don't remember his name.

No need for a DNA analysis. His son Nitin sings just like him.

You put Lata third in the list? It was Lata that put Noor Jahan ouit of business (altho she is great fan of NJ). Lata is the first on any list.

For me... I can't seem to decide between Kishore and Rafi... although Rafi was definitely more versatile. When I hear a Rafi song, I can usually tell which actor he'd have sung it for - I dunno how he did it, but his voice adapted to almost all actors - and with the likes of "Likhe jo Khat tujhey" , "Kya hua tera waada", "Bhari duniya me aakhir dil" - he has sung all possible moods!

With Kishore, his songs on Rajesh Khanna, and Amitabh are unparalleled - but that's about it.

Mukesh... I'm not that big a fan... but one number that I think him and only him could have sung is Ik Din Bik Jaaye gaa Maati ke mol !

IMO manna dey stands in the same category.
his song "laga chunri me daag" is unparallel.
not many singers can sing classical (raags etc) and filmi songs both lik him.
[/QUOTE]

I know far a fact that both Manna Dey and Rafi were classically trained. Mukesh was not. When I was learning first to recognise raags, "laagaa chnuri me daag" was the flagship song for raag Bhairavi. (just as Lata's Jaa tose nahi bolu kanaihya" was a flagship song for Hansdhwani and Mohe bhool gaye savariyan for Bhairav)

And Rafi and Manna Dey's joint song Tu hain mera premdevta for raag Lalit. (I better stop here!)

matter of opinion matey!!!!! lata mangheskar never put madam ji out of business??? it was madam ji's ailing health and then her eventual death which put a stop to a glittering career, madam ji continued to mezmerize her fans even during her illness. lata mangheskar and madam ji r both gr8 artists and legends in their own right, nobody can claim one of them is better than the other.....
