So we have the radiators that are placed right under the window … what is the option i have with the curtains … short curtains wont look so good … long curtains can become a fire hazard …
Will anyone be able to guide me on best options to deal with the situation?
Oh my god... We r JUST facing this dilemma as we speak!
The cloth curtains shouldnt be an issue... We have had them in the bedrooms for 2 yrs without any issue... It doesnt get THAT hot that the curtain catches fire. But if its still a concern, screw curtain, get blinds of some kind.
Our issue is the kiving room window... We didnt want curtains cuz it was going against the set up.. So we opted for panel blinds floor to celing....half of it looks amazing..the other half where the radiator is looks gay...so we r gona havta chop it till its right above the radiator...only the area where it touches the radiator... If it looks bad half long and half short, we will just cut to its half length.
BUT, cloth curtains do cover the radiator better and arent interrupted by it look wise...unlike our damned panel blinds.
Khawa .. we already have the blinds , but we need the curtains for sure , coz one can see through the spaces , from outside , specially night time … and also shadows etc are visible .. which we are not too comfy about … so we do need curtains , Plus during cold months it gets freaking cold and blinds are not able to contain the cold …
The radiators we have are double , which means they are those big ones that have their heat vent on the top , hence curtains cant be hanged over them coz if we do , the heat will get trapped behind the curtains , we have been told and it wont be energy efficient anymore
I know roman blinds in cloth are really good for serving the purpose of worries u have listed...
Or just get curtains... That sit right above the radiator level. I cant think of any other options... :(
Or roller blinds. But then ure gonna havta take out the ones u already have... Which would be a waste. The only thing u can use with the blinds already there, are curtains. Dont worry... U'Ll get used to the short lenth.
I had that kind of set up in my dining room - I've never thought that long curtains are a fire hazard?
Didn't like the look of short curtains so ended up with two curtain tracks, one in front of the other with the track closest to the window having short curtains. When the curtains are open the short curtains are tucked away behind the long curtains. I never close the long curtains, they always stay open and held back with tiebacks but the short curtains behind are the ones that get drawn.
You can always install pull down shades behind the blind. That will take care of the privacy concerns plus it will act as a shield between the glass and the rest of the room so cold may not seep in.
isn't electric heating very expensive? in Canada, more and more people are having * natural gas heating and that's cheaper as well as safer when it comes to hot air vents vs electric radiators. i suppose u have baseboard heaters. right? so keep the curtain just above it :)**
i would suggest, if it's feasible at all, switch to natural gas heating...that would save you big bucks in the long run :)***

This is what we did at our previous place, where the radiators were so close to the window, and I was going to suggest the same!
also, if you are worried about the cold seeping in, you can do some weather stripping around the windows to insulate the window with the 3M kit/plastic film..it's like a shrink wrapped window.. and then have blinds infront... your room will not be cold at all!!!
Curtains touching a radiator is not a fire hazard. Can you not have the long curtains and also have something directly against the windows to cover up the middle area... for example a pull down blind across the whole window, but with the long curtains just falling in each of the corners - that way when the curtains aren't drawn nobody can look in if the blinds are shut.
