Both of them are the priciest ones too. Val 1 is proly 500 bucks. Passport is proly 300 bucks. Both are wired detectors, which presumably give you better protection than the wireless detectors. However, if you don’t want wires running through or using your cigarette-lighter, you can get a wireless detector - Solo S2 kinda thing.
If you don’t want to spend that much, stick with Cobra or other detectors, that start at $29.99. Ofcourse, you get the protection you pay for.

Most expensive but the best one. It will pay for itself in couple of years. Don’t go by the picture of Mr. Valentine. It will make you change your mind about buying the detector, but the product he made is amazing. But remember no product can give you guarantee that you won’t get any tickets. Especially when cops use laser gun, there is not a whole lot you can do about laser guns.

yep that’s me! but only 2 tickets in 5 years since I got my V1. That tells you how good V1 is.

I got the Passport 8500 as it was much less expensive and according to some tests better than V1. I did a whole research on them when i was in the market to buy one a few mths back (there is a thread on GS that I had started up http://www.gupistan.com/gs/showthread.php?t=159963&highlight=radar+detector).
If you really think you need a radar-detector stick with the good ones. Usually the only people who I’ve seen using the cheap ones bought them on a whim and no thought behind them.

there is nuthing wrong with driving within the specified speed limits when driving within the city, i mean c'mon with all that traffic on the road these days esp here in So Cal, i cant even reach the speeding limit

Using radar-detectors within city limits doesn't work, there's too much ricochets and too many alarms, too many lasers etc. Plus even if u knew all that it still causes paranoia. I only plug mine in when i'm on a highway.

Yep, Tofi is right, there are more false alarms within city limits than the actual doppler reads from a cops speed gun.

False alarms are easy to differentiate with the real alarm because most of the false alarms are on X band. Police alarms are all on K band or on laser. It also depends how good your detector is that whether it can differentiate between X band or K band also does it make different sounds for different bands. So I have no problem using mine in city. More people get speeding tickets with in cities then highways.
