FURY erupted yesterday as British National Party leader Nick Griffin and a fellow activist were cleared of inciting racial hatred.

The pair were jeered and abused by irate anti-racist campaigners as they emerged from court.

Griffin, 46, called the outcome a victory for freedom.

But last night Labour MP Shahid Malik said: “I do not think freedom of speech gives you the right to persecute, frighten and make people ill.”

And Weyman Bennett of the Unite Against Fascism group. said: “It is a tragic day for justice that Nazis can hide behind freedom of speech in order to attack democracy and to encourage racism.”

Griffin and Mark Collett, 24, faced race hate charges over speeches made to BNP supporters at meetings in West Yorks — secretly filmed and screened on BBC documentary The Secret Agent.

In one, **Griffin said white women were living in fear of being raped by Asian men.

Collett, of Rothley, Leics, was filmed saying people were “living in hell” because of rapes and muggings by Asians.**

Griffin was even seen telling supporters he could get seven years in jail if he made the remarks in public, Leeds Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Rodney Jameson QC said Griffin had tried to “build fear and resentment of Asian people”.

This is quite amazing i would never have thought such blatant racist groups like these would get away with clear cut racist abuse which according to the news article was caught clealy on film.... this is strange form of Justice

And yes, you totally forgot to mention that the majority of people protesting outside the court were white christians, standing out there for the rights of Asians (or Muslims as you will say it)....

No, but what I am proud of is that there aren't blasphemy laws in western countrires where people can be put to death for speaking their mind.

What IS a disgrace is your constant badgering of western societies instead of worrying about the rampant discrimination, violence and racism in your own society where people can be put to death - not for racist attacks, but speaking their mind about religion. Where one has to state their religion on their passport. Where Islamic Fundamentalism is exporting terror and racism around the globe. Where religious minorities such as Christians and shias come steadily under attack. Where in it is near impossible for minorities to obtain representation or justice.

And you waste your time posting exclamation-laden attacks on the west as if you live in some sort of utopian society. :rolleyes:

I'm not brushing anything under the rug. Yes, racism exists in the west. Yes this group made some ignorant, racist remarks.

But you say nothing of the rampant racism, discrimination and intimidation that the whole word can see in YOUR society. Why the double standard? Why are you only concerned about the west? You've got some mammoth problems of your own. So who is the sicko? Who is the redneck? Who is the bigot? Who is the racist? You are good at one thing - name calling - and that's it.
