Definition:The ICERD (International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination) defines racism as follows: “Any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment, or exercise, on equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural, or any other field of public life.”
Based upon the definition above, i beleive that Racism is universal. I have experienced racial discrimination among all ethnic groups that i have i have come across.** Like: Whites, Arabs, Afghans, Indians and even within our own country among Paktoons , Muhaajirs, Sindhis etc.**
True, it can be, but then what if you take the Indian version of racism..You are black, a stupid white guy comes along for a job interview, and a brighter Dravidian, and they pick the white guy. Is that racism also? (hangover from so many white people ruling them I guess).
the reasons might be different...the effects might be different and of different degree...even the affected ppl can be different in each scenerio...but racism sure is universal!
punjabis or sindhis etc...are small subgroups in a much larger group of "pakistanis".... so there is always some preferences involved...when it comes to accepting ur own kind vs accepting someone from a different group....
i guess what is important is..on what level and in which way persons are affected with racism in a community or country!
discrimination based on color is of the worst kind, i know of!
