Racism in England and particularly in Bradford

I do know that race riots happened back in 2001 between asian youths and white racists in Bradford, oldham and manchester.

But recently someone told me that there are now some no-go areas in the neighbourhoods of Bradford. If a pakistani goes to the white areas of bradford then they face threat of violence, and vice-versa the whites are not safe in the asian no-go areas.

I was amazed and shocked to hear that. I know that racism was really bad in england in 1970s and early 1980s but thought things have now changed for the better.

Can any members from bradford or elsewhere in England tell us about it from first-hand experiece?

Im not 4rm the braford area itself, but yes racism is on the rise in the Uk in general, more so directed towards those who are south asian looking and/ or arab. More of it seems to be dsicreet racism, rather than what was witnessed in the 1970's and 1980's with outright rioting.

Now it is in the form of discrimination with jobs, schooling e.t.c

However may i add that places such as bradford, blackburn, dewsbury the story is a liitle different here.

Without causing offence to any pakistanis living in these places, many of the pakistanis in these areas, are extremely backward, sum areas in bradford u wud not 4 the life of u even think u were in the U.K in fact u wud think u were in sum very backward village. In addition, mnay in the community are not interested or do not many any effort to integrate into mainstream society at all.
Levels of education are low and unemployment is sky high

On the other hand, in these very cities most of the white population is working class, who have historically always been prejudiced towards non-whites. Again i make a very sweeping generalisation, however i live in the U.K and come across this every sigle day, so it is an informed statement that i am making. Many of these working class whites are ignorant, however many just are not aware of our culture e.t.c and sumtimes find us a bit intimidating
Unemployment amongst whites are again sky high in these cities. The white population feels that the pakistani/indian communities are stealing their jobs, and council housing and benefits.

The above reasons have created the rift between communities and have led to racial tensions and rioting. You are correct in saying that in places like bradford there are no- go areas for asians and white, and both communities live 2 seperate kind of lives parallel to each other in the the same city!!

It is a real shame, in certain situations it is due to the fault of our own ppl, not making an effort to integrate and to set a good example, and give a good impression of their culture and community to the wider community.

However many do make the effort, but they are pushed away!

I hope that answers ure question :)

A few wacko thobe/kaffiyeh wearing Pakistanis chanting "death to the UK" do more harm than we're willing to accept.

yeh i guess that is a way of putting it more bluntly, tho this has been more of a recent occurence, the lackof integration has been a problem 4rm a start

That sums it up perfectly. Isn't it interesting that northern areas like Bradford, Oldham etc. seems to have a lot more racial tension than London, so many different communities down here but without the 'segregation' and hostility u can get up there. There were also riots in Birmingham between blacks and asians.

Re: Racism in England and particularly in Bradford

Segregation breeds insular communities which become polarized against each other. It benefits no-one to withdraw into a ghetto.

I live in the south-east and the area I live in was a really charming place, until a couple of boys from Bradford and a group of lads from Preston discovered it and introduced some local young men to the pleasures of illicit drugs, incited hatred against all white people (for no reason!) urged the young men to create their own identity, for within that they can find the strength to rampage against all whites who of course are ALL racist towards asians...

For a few years things got quite out of hand in a few pockets of the society, and then... The young men GREW UP and realised that they were rebels without a cause.

Unfortunately the lasting legacy was the established drug pushers.

However, I am pleased to say that our town is proud of our healthy multi-culturalism.

I make it a conscious point to report to the police when ever I see anyone being racist or taking advantage of the system intentionally or unintentionally ... especially if they are desi's ... because its because of these illiterate, uneducated problem mongers that the rest of us get blamed ..
