Racial Profiling

Re: Racial Profiling

i had my gibson guitar case checked twice at the JFK, once in the waiting lounge, AFTER i had been through luggage screening already!

so i was sitting in the lounge, minding my own business, and this airport staff came by, and asked if she could take a look at the guitar, on the pretext that her husband also plays. i was like: ok lady whatever. she opened the case, took the axe out, and just felt the body of the case. all the while, praising how beautiful it was.

at least, she was polite.

Re: Racial Profiling

^ Can't blame her man, I was scared of guitar cases myself for months after watching Desperado.

Re: Racial Profiling

More like sly and sneaky! :grumpy: should’ve told her off! Aren’t they supposed to show you a badge or somethin before examining your stuff?

Re: Racial Profiling

but seroiusly man, a brown man could dress like a mullah or a wannane rock star, he is feared equally. thats our power!

last time at the JFK, the airport security officer pulled out a copy of al-chemist from my laptop bag, and tried to glean over the back cover, pretending he could read. he asked whats it about. my inner racial profiler process kicked in (he was black ... err african american), and i thought to myself: you don't even look matric pass, how can i explain to you what it means? but thankfully i didn't say it out loud. i usually just take the summun bukmun umyun route at times like these.

funny thing is i dont even like the book or the author. i have not read the book till today.

Re: Racial Profiling

you are right. sly. sneaky. but its sly-er and sneaky-er to let the sly and the sneaky people do what they want to do, thinking we dont know what they are up to!

Re: Racial Profiling

Most of the Pakistanis do (many unintentionally and without even knowing)

when on evening walk, 80% of Pakistani would like to cross the road and avoid bypassing a 6ft+ tall black man just because he is black and "blacks" are dangerous. Many call it "safety" but its racial profiling too. Oh and by the way, same Pakistanis cry foul in gatherings about "how they were pulled on airport for extra security check"

Re: Racial Profiling

well, that's actually just helplessness...

Re: Racial Profiling

I think everyone does it to an extent. I practically grew up in the ghetto part of town so blacks usually don’t bother me. But I do know people who as soon as they see a black guy will lock their doors or cross the street. Most of the time the guys will notice too. This reminds me of a video, he does say a cuss word so don’t know if its appropriate. Mods can take it down if its not

But men in shalwar kameez with beards and all don’t scare me a bit or make me uncomfortable. I can understand, though why some people would feel uncomfortable; it only takes one bad experience. For example, around two months ago I was in the elevator and two tall buff guys came in. When my floor came, as I was about to walk out when one of the guys teasingly said “Don’t go” or something like that……… it was around 9 at night and just gave me the shivers. Not really *racial *profiling but every time a tall buff guy walks in the elevator and I’m alone, I can’t help but want to run out. Stupid I know.
