Racial category

Re: Racial category

It is rather confusing and just inconsistent across forms across agencies. In your case with the kids being biracial (if we go with the definition of pakistanis being asian and not caucasian)

either way I dont know if south asians get any benefit of Equal Opportunity when it comes to education since in general they are above national averages and can not be classified as under represented...which sucks.

Its like yeah south asians are a minority, but not minority enough :D crazy I tell ya

Re: Racial category

i usually put down white-caucasian. i might be dark brown in colour and my family may have migrated from India (South Asia) after partition but since we are Pakistani now and as moin ul atiq says legally we should be classified as middle eastern/caucasian. therefore I am a caucasian man of south asian origin.

Re: Racial category

i usually check the box that states "middle easterner" if that option is available..if not then caucasian (in accordance to the US census bureau) ....then I check the "other" box and write down south asian..... since I am of mixed origin.

however i was told if you are of a mixed origin that you should check the box according to your father's origin......is this correct?

Re: Racial category

ravage, can you elaborate a bit on how you managed to change your race once your family moved from UP to karachi? do you still have the same set of parents?

Re: Racial category

itnay sensitive kyun ho queer. things arent that bad for u south asians, get over your inferiority complex

Re: Racial category

its a simple question, my caucasian bhaiyya.

Re: Racial category

Im from South Africa, meaning i cant answer. :what:

Re: Racial category

we caucasians resent simple questions. we feel simplicity is for simpler south asian minds

Re: Racial category

I would check off "other" then Pakistani. If there is no check box, I write it in. If they don't allow write-ins, then I check off 'prefer not to say.'

I have nothing againt Indians/Asians and don't like to pretend I am caucasian or Middle Eastern.

Re: Racial category

This is incorrect Mad. Pakistani is one of the 16 (?) subgroups under the “Asian American” umbrella as per US Census. Check, I did.

Re: Racial category

He was asking about what language you are speaking, it does not mean Americans think Pakistanis are Arabs....

Re: Racial category

They still use "East-Indian" in USA? Man you guys are behind.

Over here it's "South-Asian" for Paki/Indian/Bengali now and that's what I tick, some do classify Pakistan as Midde-Eastern and others as Central-Asian so sometimes I pick that.

Out of principal I would never ever tick "East-Indian" if ever I came across it I'd tick "Other (specify)" and write Pakistani next to it, I most certainly I'm not Indian.

Writing Caucasian is stupid, we are Caucasoid but not Caucasian, Caucasian now means White and even Kashmiris (Koshur not MP) and Pashtuns are not White even though they're fair, a lot of people don't even consider Medditernean ppl to belong to the Caucasian/White race.

PS. I think South-Asian or even Paki/Indian are blanket terms, those regions/countries are multi-racial, a person from Amristar and a person from Lahore are different nationalities yet the same race and ethnicity whereas a person from Kerala and Amristar are the same nationality yet different in every way.

Re: Racial category

^^ Being EAST INDIAN by race does not imply that you are INDIAN by nationality.. you dont have to confuse your race with your hatred for India... Also.. 'Pakistani' is not a race.

Re: Racial category

  1. I don't hate India. I simply said I am not an Indian.

  2. 'Indian' is no more a race than 'Pakistani', 'Indian' is just a nationality.

Here in Britian we say South-Asian or South-Asia.

If some Americans think everyone from South-Asia is an "east-Indian" or whatever then that's because they're ignorant, they don't know the world beyond Mcdonalds, CNN and beer. Sameway White ppl over here call Indians and Bengalis as "Pakis".

Re: Racial category

aight you dont hate india Good... they're our racial brothers :P

yup, indian is no more a race than Pakistani.. i never said it was.. i said EAST INDIAN was the race..

I personally prefer SOUTH ASIAN too but in a lot of places they use EAST INDIAN.. and thats what we are..

Re: Racial category

Not just Indians, all of humanity are our brothers.

I've never heard the term "East Indian" being used as a racial group, it's always a nationality here, everytime I hear it I think of people from Assam or Bengal.

As for racial similarities with India, there is no one kind of Indian or Pakistani, both countries are diverse, I think the Punjabis on both sides have similarities and the Urdu and Hindi people on both sides do, I don't think there's many Sindhis in India and those that did migrate have mostly assimilated, the number of Pashtuns/Balochis is negeligible in India. So yeah some Pakis and Indians are racially the same but not all, we're all somewhat similar but not the same.

PS. East Punjabis are well hottt, even better than West Punjabis, obviously only if they're not Amritdhari (I respect Kesh and everything but it's not my cuppa tea).

Re: Racial category

Hi white pakistani

There is a famous saying:

“Dhobi Ka Kutta Naa Ghar Kaa Na Ghaat Ka”. You’re neither an East Indian nor a caucasian. Have you or any of your family member got a blond hair and blue eyes? Then forget calling yourself a cauc. You’re a nakli/duplicate white guy. Even though you consider yourself a cauc but other caucs won’t accept you as their fellow member. Market yourself in the cauc marriage market to know your own worth.

Re: Racial category

And when I was in the USA, a white guy asked me whether I was a Pakistani or an Indian. I said proudly that I am an Indian. I really hate when someone has a doubt about my country of origin. I wish every Pakistani look like Arab just like you so that we are unmistakenly and undoubtedly identified as Indians.

I also wish GOD plays some magic so that Pakistan becomes a part of Europe while we remain where we are with our beautiful brown dravidian look.
