I first read about them in biography of Shaikh Ayaz (Sindh’s famous poet). He praised beauty of Rabari ladies in his poetry. He referred them during his viist to Thar (beautiful desert of Sindh).
Wikipedia articles tells that they are mostly situated in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan. They were sent by Shiva ji on eart to llok after Parvati’s camels.

In a book ‘Jisse le Uri raat hawa’ a biography-cum-novel by a Pakistani bureaucrat Muhammad Iqbal Dewaan, he introduces these Rabbari people as Nomads-cum-Agriculturist and tells a very interesting tradition among them. Centuries ago, one of lady from their community was kidnapped and raped by a landlord of Bhujh (Kutch / Gujarat) and after this incident, whenever Rabbari Nomads passed Bhujh, their ladies wear black and chant some songs carrying gaaliyan for that land lord.
