Raan Sikandari

Please don’t ask me where this dish got it’s name from, I made it yesterday for a dawat and everyone loved it and i’m sharing the recipe.

1 Leg of lamb
2 tablespoons ginger paste
2 tablespoon garlic paste
1/2 cup yoghurt
3 tablespoons brown onion paste
3 tablespoons cashew paste
1 teaspoon garam masala
2 teaspoons red chilli powder
2 teaspoons zeera and dhania powder
4 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons oil
salt to taste

Put all the ingredients in a big ziplock bag and rub the mixture onto the meat and the it marinate overnight. In a heavy-bottom pan cook the meat on very low heat with 1/2 cup water till the meat is tender. Transfer onto a baking tray and bake for 1/2 hour untill you have the desired color.

I made zeera potato’s with this…

Boil 3-4 large potato’s till they’re 3/4 done..cut into big chunks and rub about 3 tablespoons of oil and 1 tablespoon of roasted and crushed zeera.. place them onto the baking tray and bake for 15 mins or untill they change in color.

Re: Raan Sikandari

Re: Raan Sikandari

Gina you are a vegetarian ? like a strict one ? ..I am definitely gonna try this recipe inshallah …

Re: Raan Sikandari

coincidentally, i am thawing raan. this sounds different. i might try it. what exactly is brown onion paste? do you mean fry the onions till they are brown and then make a paste of it?
i dont have any cashews in the cupboard-- i know you didnt eat it so you might not know the answer to this-- would be okay to substitute almonds for cashews or should i skip the nuts all together?

Re: Raan Sikandari

This sounds nice. Thanks gina

Yes, b2b you fry onions till they're brown and then make a smooth puree out of it. Almond paste would work as well, infact i've made it with almond paste before too.

Re: Raan Sikandari

ok so i did end up using this recipe. i made the raan today. i just logged on specifically to say thank you for the recipe! it was delicious, alhamdulillah.
used almonds instead of cashews, lemon instead of vinegar, and added some fresh cilantro (grounded it into the almond paste with a green chili). hubby really loved it as well.

^ Awe thank you :)
