I was thinking to open this thread for last few days but finally, here we go:
As we know Pakistan has once again got struck by a disaster. Hundreds are dead and those left behind are in miserable condition. Forget other necessities, they dont have even enough to survive next day. Its a difficult choice for them whether to mourn their losses or worry about how to survive in these crippled conditions.
At the same time, we have our Eid coming and we all perform sacrifices as sunnat-e-ibrahimi. People in Pakistan usually perform qurbani in their whereabouts while expatriates usually send money back home to their relatives for the same purpose.
But under present conditions, its my own personal opinion that we all should try to perform qurbani in flood effected areas OR whereever we perform qurbani, we make sure that victims get their share.
Now there are two things here:
If we perform qurbani and send the meat itself to the flood victims, will they have enough resources to cook it and reserve the rest for next times? I dont think so.
Is it possible if there is anyone whom we can supply the meat, and then they can cook and make sure its distributed to the victims? If it happens, it’ll be great!
Please share you ideas, opinions and guide to the organizations whom you know personally that will carry out this. I know there are several online and we can always trust them but its better to know someone who actually performs that.
What else can we do to help them on this auspicious occasion of Eid? Please remember this responsibility comes on everyone of us.
May ALLAH guide us to help those who need our help as much as possible.
P.S.: Please keep this thread clean from any political debate.
In my personal case its done with my parents back at home. If you are looking to donate food from the US, not gonna happen easily. You can give money to the Edhi foundation to do it for you. I would recommend Aurat foundation as well.
Plus it gets pretty bad in Pakistan these days with people looking for meat by begging at doors and homes. Its kinda sad really how the entire process of giving turns in an argument to get people to leave as their is nothing to give anymore.
Well I am glad some one brought this up because its a calamity which needs to be addressed by everyone who is an earning hand.
On my family's part, we are for the first time going to do "qurbani" jointly with our neighbors, and distribute the other half, or a bit more than half of the money we could spare to the flood reliefs and flood victims, most of them personally, because its been an ongoing issue...the trust factor involved with the camps and as such.
So we try to achieve the best of both, with whatever capacity Allah SWT has granted us.
@Zafra I understand the option of going thru charitable orgs but the question remains, will the flood victims be able to reserve the meat that'll be provided to them? I dont think they have enough resources. Or do we hv the choice to hv the qurbani done by these orgs say Edhi and they keep the meat while slowly and gradually moving the cooked food ahead to the needy. @COLD_FIRE Its always a good idea to send money to the victims but how'll you manage to provide them food?
You know Langar system? All u have to do is arrange a pickup, a big daig and a cook, usualy u find all of this as a package around the city ‘chowks’. They take u to whatever location u want and cook food right there infront of you so u know all of it is right under ur nose. U provide the ingredients, and at the end of the day its all sorted.
We do 2 Qurbanis. One form myself and other from my begum.
For myself, I take 1 share in cow that my neighbors do back home in Pakistan. My brother who is there, pick that share and deliver it to Edhi homes. They cook it and feed needy and poor as they see fit.
For begum’s, flood or no flood, we do a goat through charity of her choice. For last 5-6 years she has been alternating b/w Ehsaas Foundation and Islamic Relief
Normally these charitable organizations don’t supply meat to effected areas (like flooded area) but they store meat at their facilities and deliver cooked food on daily basis.
We do that in ISB regularly. Basically hire someone to do it and it costs you roughly 1000 to 2000 rupees or so the cook gets the food and items. It could donate food yourself as well.
What I would recommend if you wanna do it personally ask family to do it in the city they are based. While it doesn’t get to flood affectees there are plenty of daily wage workers who could do with a good meal.
The idea is to help people and that should be where ever the need is in my opinion.

You r right.
Its just this time around, floods nearby sialkot has made a pretty unbelievable mess, and whereas the needy will get plenty from within the city, the outskirts, like naroval area and beyond, there the victims are in dire need. So the pick up is the extra this time around.
Yup and the day and location make a huge difference. At the end of the day say 3/4 pm also allows the daily workers to take food home to their wife and kids. So there is that added benefit. You can feed more than 1 person in that area. @SID_NY - Edhi foundation does the Qurbani for you and they take care of everything. So you can just donate at the local offices or at the bank. I would trust Edhi with my finances if he was a broker or a banker.
We've helping hands and islamic relief as well which are very active in collecting donations and I'm sure they do the best of efforts to get things done but its always good to have people who can go to the nearest site.
I remember the earthquake in 2005 and the way everybody helped out after that. We need exact same spirit right now again.
