Last year for eid/qurbaani ( I think they do this every year) my in laws went to a farm to chill and do qurbaani. turns out, when I got my share of the meat, it was super super dirty (skin, pieces of hair, just plain gross). i almost didn’t cook it because it was such a pain to clean and cut. when I ate it, I spent more time taking skin off, and avoiding biting into bits of bone etc, that I didn’t even enjoy it. I don’t know whyyyyy it wasn’t properly clean to begin with.
I want to know if it’s okay to not accept qurbaani meat? if the meat is going to be in this state every year, I would rather not take it at all. I know its farz and sawab because of the nature of the meat giving etc, but still, any way to refuse and not offend my in laws?
I could straight up tel my sis in law that I don’t want it.. but my brother in law can be a @$#(@% sometimes and I don’t want him making an issue by my refusal
Did your inlaws go to just a random farm or an authorized farm that has proper equipment/personnel that manage it. From your description of meat, it sounds like an amateur did the slaughtering of animal. You should tell your inlaws to look into an alternative farm with better facilities.
^ Agreed! I went to a farm as well, owners aren't Muslim but they're well aware of the Muslim practices. They did a great job!
Offer them advice: let them know if you know of a better place, speak to the same owners about the way meat was cut or get a discount there based on it and take it to a halal shop that can cut the meat for them properly and clean it. I haven't seen anyone getting offended over such a discussion, everyone wants the best bang for their buck.
Can you explain to your SIL that you had a tough time cleaning and cooking and then eating the meat from last year and can you guys launch a search together for a place that is better at preparing it?
I'm sure that others had a tough time if you did and she might even be feeling the same way as you....
I don't know if they were authorized or anything like that ... I think the people who run the eid qurbaani part just rent the place and then allow people to come and pay etc... they did do the cutting on the stop though, there was a separate section for it..
I will talk to my SIL, it was pretty ridiculous how unclean it was, I almost vomitted
