Question:
The story of Nimrod, is not something I know much about..what is the Islamic story of him and his death? What references are there to him in the Holy Quran and what do scholars say about him?
Re: Quranic story of Nimrod with explanation
:salam:
This is what I have been able to find so far:
there was another king (Nimrod) who had an argument with the Prophet Abraham. Ponder a little carefully over the words in which the Quran has narrated this episode. It says:
“Think of him who had an argument with Abraham about his Lord, because God had given him the kingdom; how, when Abraham said; ‘My Lord is He who gives life and causes death.’ He answered: ‘I give life and cause death’. Abraham said: ‘God causes the sun to rise in the east can you make it rise in the west.’ So was the resister of truth shamed into silence.”
Nimrod’s claim was based on the absolute power he had over his subjects, over their lives and property. That is why he demanded that Abraham should serve and obey him.
“This claim to godhood which Pharaoh and Nimrod had put forth was by no means peculiar to them. Rulers all over the world in the past, as in the present, have made such claims.”

In addition:
To uphold his belief and his dawa of the One God, he did not give in to Nimrud and his people who threatened to throw him into a blazing fire when they were confounded.
“Ibrahim’s people replied: ‘Kill him! Burn him!’ But from the fire Allah delivered him. Surely in this there are signs for true believers.” 29:24
“‘Fire’, We said, 'be cool to Ibrahim and keep him safe.” - Qulna ya naru koonee bardan wasalaman AAala Ibraheema - Quran 21:69
