Quran lessons for a 4 year old with school

Salam parents,

I need your opinion:

My 4 year old is going to an islamic school (preK class) and mA doing well. He has started to read in English and picking up Arabic very well (he knows the alphabets, there sounds and is able to tell you what alphabet a word starts with etc.) He is really good with memorizing his duas as well. So this past Friday at his Parent teacher meeting his Arabic teacher suggested that we put him in the Quran reading program since mA he is doing so well.

Here is his current schedule: 7:30 - 3:30pm is school, he stays there for after school program until i pick him up at 5:30-45pm. The Quran reading would be 4-5pm.

My only concern is that he is so young and i feel like he will be overloaded. At this level he has no homework. But still i feel like he has little time to relax.

My husband things it will be fine since it’s during the time he is at school already. But i need to hear it from more people (I guess).

Wa/Salaam,

I'm not a parent so I don't know how stressful it can be on the kid. Personally, my siblings and I, and few of our close cousins all finished our 1st Quran at ages 4 and 5. We went to public school and read Quran at home. My only stress was the beatings for getting my letters wrong, but I'm 100% certain your son's teachers won't and can't beat him.

If he is still at school then no harm in trying, if he doesn't like it you can withdraw him and put him in later. This is a great age to develop neural connections and synapse. Brain at this age is like a sponge. Learning a new language and activity is great for brain development so my vote is yes. Would be nice if he could learn Arabic language at the same time also.

How is he taking it?

Re: Quran lessons for a 4 year old with school

thanks guys.

TLK AH he likes school and learning arabic is his new challenge. I noticed that he stop trying to read english since Arabic was new to him. I downloaded some arabic apps and he is always playing him those as well. So i think he will be fine. My only concern is if its all too much for him.

But i think i will start him in a week and see how he does. if it's too much for him, i will remove him from it.

I would suggest do it, as he's already at school! MA, brilliant child!

Re: Quran lessons for a 4 year old with school

Thank you! AH he does have a very good memory and i noticed that early on and started teaching him things early on as well.

BUt he is very behind on tracing his letters and coloring etc .

Re: Quran lessons for a 4 year old with school

All the power to the little guy. And as a mother, you would be making the best decision for him. Don't feel pressured by anyone. Do what you think is good for him.

^ this!

only you can know when something is too much for your child.
children are resilient and at this age can adapt to pretty much anything you throw at them.
if you want him to succeed in this program then find out a bit more about it and see if they take into account the young age of the child.....most likely they do. this means that they will make the lessons fun and enjoyable......he will not be bored or stressed, insha Allah.

good luck!
