I understand what you’re saying Pataka…I do.

I just think that if we only do what is specifically written then a TON of things become forbidden for us to do. There is nothing wrong with praying or hoping your prayers or good deeds are somehow helping your loved ones in the afterlife. What else will help them? Reading Quran in not an innovation, praying is not innovation…praying for the dead is? How? You’re saying that no one in the Prophet’s (pbuh) time prayed for the deceased?

In khatams, you read a part of the Quran…its a joint effort to finish as many Qurans as possible. How is that Bidat or wrong? You are reading the word of Allah swt and praying for the deceased.

How is it a bid’ah? Because the Prophet himself didn’t read the Qur’an in that context himself.

You or I may think there is nothing wrong but who are we to say anything when the Prophet himself or Allah Himself has forbidden bid’ah?

And if there are a TON of things that become forbidden for us to do, then that’s fine. We should go astray from these things because in the end it’s all about heaven vs. hell. Even to be safe, we shouldn’t do things that have doubts about them.
