Quran kha'wni, Yasin Khatams, Ameens, Bismillahs, Aqiqahs and all

Are these are cultural or do they have a mention in the Qur’an and sunnah and hadeeth? I know there may not be anything wrong in having these but what’s the official take on these widely practiced events?

Re: Quran kha'wni, Yasin Khatams, Ameens, Bismillahs, Aqiqahs and all

Aqiqah is mentioned in Ahadith. Others are not mentioned in Quran or sunnah but practised by pious muslims throughout centuries and thus part of traditional Islam.

Yes Aqiqah is mentioned, but having a party for Aqiqah a year after the actual Islamic ritual? :hmmm:

Re: Quran kha'wni, Yasin Khatams, Ameens, Bismillahs, Aqiqahs and all

Correct me if I'm wrong but Islam doesn't state to invite 100 people over for dinner after Aqeeqah where dinner or part of dinner is made out of that aqeeqah meat...What one is supposed to do is do Aqeeqah and distribute the meat amongst poor and needy...It's purely cultural to have an Aqeeqah party...The same goes with Qurbani meat too...What our people do now is do qurbani and then stock up their freezer with the meat for 4-6 months...And trust me, I'm not exaggeratting.

As for Yaseen khatams and Quran Khawani or any other khatams or even milaad, I know some people say that we shouldn't do this as it's not really right ( I am unaware of their reason for saying it) but in my family, we do have these khatams, milad, Quran khawani etc occassionally and I don't think there is any wrong associated with them...I mean, come on, you and your friends/family are reciting some Quranic verses, how would it be bad for anyone?

As for Bismillah, Roza Kushaii (or is it roza khushaii), a party held when a kid finishes reading Quran for the first time, again, are cultural, I believe...But, it's more to encourage the kid for, say, fasting for the first time...

Its Roza Kushaai (first one) but pronounced wrongly as the second one

Re: Quran kha'wni, Yasin Khatams, Ameens, Bismillahs, Aqiqahs and all

nothing wrong with aqiqah parties, it's better to celebrate your own traditional days than to celebrate Valentine or easter etc.

Re: Quran kha'wni, Yasin Khatams, Ameens, Bismillahs, Aqiqahs and all

According to my knowledge and with a further research i can provide full proofs ..k all of the above appear in the qur'aan . hadith .. or from the actions of sahabah e kiraam ..

and all of the above are either sunnah , mustahab ya mandoob

Re: Quran kha'wni, Yasin Khatams, Ameens, Bismillahs, Aqiqahs and all

^That'll be very beneficial to us, please do that.

Re: Quran kha’wni, Yasin Khatams, Ameens, Bismillahs, Aqiqahs and all

A proof for celebration other than Eidayen can be found in this article about shaykh ibn hajr by T J Winter, when the shaykh completed his famous book there was a huge celebration in his honour.

In 833, Timur’s son Shahrukh sent a letter to the Mamluk sultan al-Ashraf Barsbay requesting several gifts, including a copy of the Fath, and Ibn Hajar was able to send him the first three volumes. In 839 the request was repeated, and further volumes were sent, until, in the reign of al-Zahir Jaqmaq, the whole text was finished and a complete copy was dispatched. Similarly, the Moroccan sultan Abu Faris ‘Abd al-‘Aziz al-Hafsi requested a copy before its completion. When it was finished, in Rajab 842, a great celebration was held in an open place near Cairo, in the presence of the ulema, judges, and leading personages of Egypt. Ibn Hajar sat on a platform and read out the final pages of his work, and then poets recited eulogies and gold was distributed. It was, says the historian Ibn Iyas, ‘the greatest celebration of the age in Egypt.’

Re: Quran kha'wni, Yasin Khatams, Ameens, Bismillahs, Aqiqahs and all

aqeeqah is not to sacrifice and distribute meat among the poor....
it is to sacrifice the animal and then feast upon its meat i.e. to have a party....

lazy ppl like me who dont want to go thru the hassle of a party and all decide to just distribute the meat and get it over with....
and then those close friends and relatives who insist upon a party just take them to a restaurant or something....

Re: Quran kha'wni, Yasin Khatams, Ameens, Bismillahs, Aqiqahs and all

I think aqeeqah is mentioned in hadees, rest I think are cultural.

Re: Quran kha'wni, Yasin Khatams, Ameens, Bismillahs, Aqiqahs and all

^ The rest are definitely cultural, and I find it somewhat 'disturbing', that people don't see anything wrong with these so called quraan khani's,yasin khatams and what nots.I mean, what else is 'innovation' or biddat then?

Re: Quran kha'wni, Yasin Khatams, Ameens, Bismillahs, Aqiqahs and all

^bcoz not everyone has to agree with your opinion.

Why would sitting togather to read Quran or Yasin be biddah? Every innovation doesn't have to be biddah. If culture promotes something that can increase the reading of Quran, help people connect with Allah by reading Yasin or any other surat then hail to that culture.

I thought religion was not about subjective opinions.

Perhaps it's not my place to answer this question, I am not a religious scholar. But I distinctly remember reading in a sahih hadees that any innovation in religion is bad(these aren't the exact words though). Besides, if something was good or sawab, I am sure the holy prophet SAW and his companions would have been more eager than us to do that. If he didn't do something, surely there must be a reason for this. Khair, to each his own.

In matters of fiqh we are allowed to have diffence of opinion.
