The following is merely my opinion of some of the meaning to me of some of the verses, it doesnt mean it is correct, so please keep that in mind. Thanks.
I think it starts off the first ayah to remind us that whatever we do should start with Allah's name, in order that we have good intentions and do actions that will benefit us and not harm us. God-consciousness if you will. Because almost everything we do starts with an idea, so if we have the idea in our minds that whatever we do is being looked upon by Allah, we will want to do the right things.
In the second Ayah, to me, Allah is giving us some of His attributes. He is letting us know that He cherishes His creation, which is the world and all that is in it, and it is also Him that sustains it. To me atleast, this shows Allah's love for mankind and the trees and rivers, and everything else in it. It also tells me that the earth was not made as some play thing, some fancy, etc. It is not something Allah made to neglect. Allah then tells us that He has made it and He will sustain it, for as long as He wills. To me its a reminder that no matter what we do, the ultimate fate of this world lies with Allah. So whatever happens in it, or on it, we have to take with stride and patience. It sort of has a split meaning to me, because I note that man sometimes thinks he is the one that controls things, or sometimes feels if he takes charge of things, everything will be alright. But to me, Allah is telling us that it is not upto man, man does not send the rains, make the vegetation grow, feed all the animals, etc. Allah does that. Also, Allah cherishes this earth, and we should too. By treating people well on it, the trees, the animals, the birds, etc.
Allah then tells us of His Kindness, His Graciousness. I think we only need to look at our lives to realize this. He gives us the ability to use our five senses, to feel love, to raise children, etc. We can feel joy, we can feel sadness, and its a blessing. Then Allah tells us of His Mercy. I think this is something many of us forget. Allah is the Most Merciful. Think of our mothers or those that raised us, and think of how merciful our mothers are towards us. We can do so many wrongs and our mothers still protect us and take our side and forgive us. Then consider Allah's Mercy, which is incomparable to even our mothers mercy. It is far far greater than we can imagine. Therefore we should never lose hope of it. Hope that Allah will bless us with His Mercy. And I also believe that the reason we are capable of making mistakes is because Allah wants us to acknowlege that He is there to forgive them. As is often stated, if we didnt make mistakes, we'd be angels, but Allah did not intend that for us.
To me, when Allah reminds me that He is the Master of the Day of Judgement, it is to reinforce the fact of why I am here on this earth. And it is a reminder that Allah is the Master, the decider, the One who will judge me. Not my neighbor or my friend or my foe. Allah Alone. To me the Day of Judgement is mentioned at the beginning so that I may make my actions with the knowledge that some day I will be answerable for them, and that should be a reminder to me daily, to do good and treat people and everything on this earth well.
The Ayah on worship tells me that I should worship Allah alone, nobody or nothing else. I shouldnt worship money, my boss, my job, my parents, my friends, television, whatever. I am here to worship Allah. When I have this in mind, everything else should fall into place. Limits can be set on how much I allow other things to influence my behavior. And whenever we seek aid, we should seek it from Allah first and foremost, as He is the One that assists us in all that we do, even when we feel that nobody else can understand us, we should always know that Allah can, and Allah can put it in peoples hearts to assist us if we would like that.
The Ayah on showing us the straight way to me says that only Allah can guide us. He knows the way, and we should ask for His guidance in it. Just as we ask our teachers to direct us through different subjects so tha we may understand and be led to full comprehension of it, we should ask Allah for all guidance in our lives. The examples of those who have gone astray tell me that there isnt just one path that people can fall onto. There are paths that dont lead to goodness. I see it as a constant reminder, and to me it also says that it is something we always have to remind ourselves of, because it can be easy to go astray if we allow ourselves to. We shouldnt think that we cant be led astray.
The important thing I learn from this Ayah is awareness of the fact that we must keep Allah in mind in whatever it is that we do, and insha'Allah this will lead us to a good life here, and in the Hereafter.
I realize what I said was rather simplistic and probably are the thoughts of many here, but I merely stated my thoughts on the matter. Whether they are correct or not, that is some of how I feel about this beautiful Surah.
