Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

Well, that stupid priest first got the idea and then transmitted it all over, and now all haters are doing it everywhere. I said the same thing in one other post that this is the biggest threat now that all anti-islam segments will do this here and there..

They have found a burnt Quran in Chicago, and also one in lansing, MI:

**Burned Quran Found Outside Muslim Community Center In Chicago **

A burned copy of Islam’s holy book was found in front of a Muslim center in Chicago last weekend.
The charred Quran was discovered outside of the Muslim Community Center on the city’s northwest side, just one day after the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, the Chicago Tribune reports](Chicago News - Chicago Tribune). That anniversary was also proclaimed “Burn a Quran Day” by a preacher in Florida.
Rev. Terry Jones ultimately didn’t go through with his plans to hold a mass burning of Qurans at his church in Gainesville, but it appears that someone in Chicago followed his lead.
CBS reports that two young people attending services at a mosque in the building found the book on the sidewalk. The mosque at the Center is one of the oldest in the city, says the Council on American-Islam Relations’ Chicago office.
The incident follows a similar one in East Lansing, Michigan on Saturday the 11th. A Quran was burned outside of an Islamic Center in that city; torn pages, some smeared with feces, were found outside the Center, according to The Detroit News.
In Chicago, Mohammed Kaiseruddin of the MCC’s board of directors described to the Tribune the community’s reaction to the incident:
“We feel like we’ve been victimized, that’s for sure,” Kaiseruddin said. “When we handle the Quran ourselves…we treat it with the utmost respect. We never put a copy of the Quran down on the floor.” “From childhood, we tell children this is a book of respect and once they’re finished reading they close the book and kiss it, and put it away,” he said.

FBI: East Lansing Quran burning might be a hate crime
Sarah Cwiek (2010-09-15)

DETROIT, MI (Michigan Radio) - The FBI is looking into the case of a burned Quran left at an East Lansing mosque last weekend.

FBI Special Agent Andrew Arena says the Agency is investigating the case as a possible hate crime under federal law.

But Arena says there’s still not enough information to about the perpetrators’ intent to make that determination. He says there’s sometimes a thin line between free speech and hate crimes.

“Burning an American flag or burning the Quran or burning anything on public property or private property that’s protected speech,” Arena says. “But when you do something at a religious institution with intent to intimidate that’s the question [here].”

Arena says both the FBI and East Lansing Police are still looking into the case. The East Lansing police have offered a $10,000 reward for information.

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

Ive just heard that the man who was burning the Quran passed away in a car accident today. Dont know which man it is! Has anyone else heard this?

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

Nah, never heard or read anywhere yet..

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

The one that pulled the stunt in NYC got fired from his job

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

he even got arrested and put in jail but i'm sure when they show these videos worldwide especially in the the middle east and south asia, they'll conveniently cut out the part where these guys got arrested and fired from their jobs. they have to enrage muslims around the world somehow

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

I think it is humbling that non-Muslims are concerned about the welfare of their Muslim neighbours. $10,000 reward, that is a handsome offer ... would Muslim governments do the same against people who would burn a Bible or other scripture?

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

^ exactly my thoughts.

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

There is small rabid bigoted group, militia folks, supermacist groups etc and now they have something else to rail against. not much different than the extremists in Pakistan or other places.

but like there, sensible people here will also try to help, and in my view more so than over there.'

we simply can not allow militant extremists from any group dictate the interaction and impact the coexistence of any group

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

Every single day Qurans are burned in the Islamic World by other Muslims.

They get burned by the daily bombings that occur in Mosques especially during Friday prayers.

Muslims need to condemn these henious acts in same passion as these burn the quran stunts in the West.

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

Peace mercenary2k

The single drop of Muslim blood shed is more sacred than the holy cities to Allah (SWT), so your point needs careful consideration.

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

"Americans, you need to burn calories, not Quran". That's a page on FB. lol

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

^^

Very True.

Also the actions of a few idiots is not representative of the rest of the people. Genuine people have protested against this.

Also I would like to appreciate the muted response from the muslim world for this nonsense. These idiots should not be given the publicity that they crave for.

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

So far i agree with most of you.

I am most touched by X2

You said it perfectly.

And thats the sensible and most humane view on here. To people that hold to that tenet Long may they live!

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

Mate it also has to do with how much media sensationalizes something anywhere. I hate to say it but in order to make a buck the media outlets could manipulate many things..and yes people are idiots to fall for it, but it works, make anything into a huge thing...keep forcing it into people's face, giving a big platform for extreme views and people react..

forget politics...teh UK rags impact football team and manager stuff by their similar approach..

We really ought to hold media accountable.

god forbid something happens when they are having a slow time and those news become the biggest news ever...I mean in US some of the murders like lacey and scot petersen, drew petersen (not related but maybe all petersens have an issue j/k) natalie holloway, etc i mean stories yes, tragedies, yes, crimes yes...but they hit when news were slow and it was just blanketed all over in news.

Re: Quran Burnt at Chicago and Michigan...

Couldn't have said it better!

Message to Muslims: I’m Sorry

Many Americans have suggested](http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2010/09/07/my-take-will-moderate-christians-fiddle-as-qurans-burn/) that more moderate Muslims should stand up to extremists, speak out for tolerance, and apologize for sins committed by their brethren.

That’s reasonable advice, and as a moderate myself, I’m going to take it. (Throat clearing.) I hereby apologize to Muslims for the wave of bigotry and simple nuttiness that has lately been directed at you. The venom on the airwaves, equating Muslims with terrorists, should embarrass us more than you. Muslims are one of the last minorities in the United States that it is still possible to demean openly, and I apologize for the slurs.

I’m inspired by another journalistic apology. The Portland Press Herald in Maine published an innocuous front-page article and photo a week ago about 3,000 local Muslims praying together to mark the end of Ramadan. Readers were upset, because publication coincided with the ninth anniversary of 9/11, and they deluged the paper with protests. So the newspaper published a groveling front-page apology for being too respectful of Muslims. “We sincerely apologize,” wrote the editor and publisher, Richard Connor, and he added: “we erred by at least not offering balance to the story and its prominent position on the front page.” As a blog by James Poniewozik of Time paraphrased it: “Sorry for Portraying Muslims as Human.”

I apologize to Muslims for another reason. This isn’t about them, but about us. I want to defend Muslims from intolerance, but I also want to defend America against extremists engineering a spasm of religious hatred.

Granted, the reason for the nastiness isn’t hard to understand. Extremist Muslims have led to fear and repugnance toward Islam as a whole. Threats by Muslim crazies just in the last few days forced a Seattle cartoonist, Molly Norris, to go into hiding after she drew a cartoon about Muhammad that went viral.
And then there’s 9/11. When I recently compared today’s prejudice toward Muslims to the historical bigotry toward Catholics, Mormons, Jews and Asian-Americans, many readers protested that it was a false parallel. As one, Carla, put it on my blog: “Catholics and Jews did not come here and kill thousands of people.”
That’s true, but Japanese did attack Pearl Harbor and in the end killed far more Americans than Al Qaeda ever did. Consumed by our fears, we lumped together anyone ofJapanese ancestry and rounded them up in internment camps. The threat was real, but so were the hysteria and the overreaction.

Radicals tend to empower radicals, creating a gulf of mutual misunderstanding and anger. Many Americans believe that Osama bin Laden is representative of Muslims, and many Afghans believe that the Rev. Terry Jones (who talked about burning Korans) is representative of Christians.
Many Americans honestly believe that Muslims are prone to violence, but humans are too complicated and diverse to lump into groups that we form invidious conclusions about. We’ve mostly learned that about blacks, Jews and other groups that suffered historic discrimination, but it’s still O.K. to make sweeping statements about “Muslims” as an undifferentiated mass**.**

**In my travels, I’ve seen some of the worst of Islam: theocratic mullahs oppressing people in Iran; girls kept out of school in Afghanistan in the name of religion; girls subjected to genital mutilation in Africa in the name of Islam; warlords in Yemen and Sudan who wield AK-47s and claim to be doing God’s bidding. **

**But I’ve also seen the exact opposite: Muslim aid workers](http://www.islamicreliefusa.org/) in Afghanistan who risk their lives to educate girls; a Pakistani imam who shelters rape victims; Muslim leaders who campaign against female genital mutilation and note that it is not really an Islamic practice; Pakistani Muslims who stand up for oppressed Christians and Hindus; and above all, the innumerable Muslim aid workers in Congo, Darfur, Bangladesh and so many other parts of the world who are inspired by the Koran to risk their lives to help others. Those Muslims have helped keep me alive, and they set a standard of compassion, peacefulness and altruism that we should all emulate. **
I’m sickened when I hear such gentle souls lumped in with Qaeda terrorists, and when I hear the faith they hold sacred excoriated and mocked. To them and to others smeared, I apologize.
