As teacher’s college is gearing down, I have to develop an educational credo that represents my educational philosophy. My credo can take any shape or form…there are NO boundaries.
As I flesh out the details of my credo, I have decided to turn to you guyz for some help. If you have come across any kind of quote that has really stuck with you-inspirational, educational or otherwise, I would really appreciate it if you would post it in this thread as it would really help me out.

Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand.
"Chinese proverb"
A mind is a fire to be kindled, not a vessel to be filled.
Plutarch
Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.
Plato
I have learned silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet strange, I am ungrateful to those teachers.
Kahlil Gibran
"The future of the world is in my classroom today, a future with the potential for good or bad.... Several future presidents are learning from me today; so are the great writers of the next decades, and so are all the so-called ordinary people who will make the decisions in a democracy. I must never forget these same young people could be the thieves and murderers of the future. Only a teacher? Thank God I have a calling to the greatest profession of all! I must be vigilant every day, lest I lose one fragile opportunity to improve tomorrow."

Gibran being my favourite poet/philosopher/artist, here are a few gems from "The Prophet":
[QUOTE]
If he [the teacher] is indeed wise he does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind.

Say not, 'I have found the truth,' but rather, 'I have found a truth.'

-Two people get hired for a job. At the end of the day they both get paid 20 dollars. One was happy while one was sad. The happy one was expecting 10. The sad one was expecting 30. Moral of the story? The key to happiness in life is keeping your expectations low. Hope for the best, expect the worst.
